A heavy bronze mid-century sculpture on a wood base, signed (incised) J. Soriano, measuring approximately 14" by 9" by 8" (bronze itself), the wood base about 10 1/2" high.  Note the fine lustrous brown patina. The signature is spurious, the work not by the famous Mexican artist sculptor Juan Soriano (so determined by correspondence from the representative/expert of his estate), but the anonymous work stands on its own merits, and it is likely to be of Mexican or South American origin...

Signed Japanese Meiji Bronze Hawk Okimono on Rockery base, highest quality sculpting with details to every feather . The hawk is holding down another bird and 2 of its feathers lay on the base stand of the sculpture. The hawk was sculpted separately from the rockery and it was completely hand worked and then applied to the main sculpture. Rare bronze shishi statue by renaissance artist/potter, Tsukigata Nahiko. This solid and impressive bronze is well sculpted with wonderful details and prominently signed on the rear depicting the "god of wealth or household", Daikoku with his mallet and bag of plenty, one of the Seven Lucky Gods but cleverly represented by a shishi, lion dog which Tsukigata used in a number of his bronze sculpture. A fine cold-painted Vienna bronze eagle of the highest quality and unusually large size. The painted decoration is wonderfully complex and detailed. The bronze is marked "Austria" under the tail feathers. We have seen this exact bronze with Franz Xavier Bergmann marks.

Origin: Austria, ca. 1900. Condition: excellent, only the faintest paint nicks are the tips of a few features and beak. Dimensions: 9-1/4" x 6-1/2" x 5-1/4" high.

An interesting and inventive sculpture of a performing elephant balancing upon a ball whilst supporting an acrobat with his trunk. The sculpture is solid bronze and cast in the lost wax technique, cire perdue. This method is able to faithfully reproduce all of the quirky textures that the artist has chosen. The sculpture is mounted on a white marble base and is, as far as I can see, unsigned.
