A detailed gouache painting of two female and one male figure in a green landscape with trees and flowers, 9 1/2" by 7 1/2" (13 1/2" by 11 1/2" in gold framing), painted in the centuries-old traditional style of the Indo-Persian School, but contemporary. The condition is excellent and this is a very decorative piece. The amount of work involved to create such a detailed image is stupendous---though the market undervalues the handiwork.

Watercolor painting of some age, 13" by 10 1/2" (22" by 18" framed), the subject simply a tree, but, that subject is handled very beautifully, and the work is signed at lower right by artist Paula Day (on whom I find no information). The interpretation of light and color belies the hand of a talented artist. Judging from the framing materials this dates no later than the mid 1960's and likely earlier. I recommend a new mat only; the frame can be retained.

Oil on canvas painting of autumnal trees in an extensive landscape, signed lower right by artist SAIMA SYVERSON (1891-1978). The work, 24" by 30" (29" by 35" in circa 1950's attractive frame) is an impressive size, and the rich impasto brushwork adds to the appeal. Condition is excellent save for a 1" small narrow loss at extreme top left, and there is a small piece of the frame missing at bottom center...

A very pretty impressionist work that appears to show spindly eucalyptus-like trees in a hazy landscape, some small red tile roofs suggesting this could be California or possibly Mediterranean Europe. The piece is signed at lower right "J R HUPPI" or similar. It measures 9" by 12" (canvas laid on board) and 16" by 19" as framed. There is a Salt Lake City framers or gallery stamp on the frame ("Tivoli Gallery"). A light cleaning to remove some yellowed varnish would be beneficial...

A very large poster in colors, 46 1/4" by 31 1/4" (50 3/4" by 35 3/4" in attractive, quality real gold leaf framing), the work "Ambassadeurs/Aristide Bruant", originally published in 1892, by the famed French Post-Impressionist artist HENRI DE TOULOUSE-LAUTREC (1864-1901). The original poster, which can bring tens of thousands of dollars at auctions of fine and important prints, is in two sheets and measures a whopping (roughly) 54 inches by about 36 inches...

A small pencil drawing of several structures on rolling hillsides, drawn in a very impressionist hand, and signed "A C Goodwin" at lower right by one of Boston's most beloved artists, ARTHUR CLIFTON GOODWIN (1864-1929). Written on the backing presumably by another hand and at a later date is the artist's name and "Berkshire Landscape, pencil drawing". The work was acquired in suburban Sudbury, Massachusetts...

This is a 20th century restrike of the 1859 etching "Thames Police" (also known as "Wapping Wharf", by the famous American artist JAMES ABBOTT McNEILL WHISTLER (1834-1903). This was printed on a thick, creamy paper at some point in the 20th century. Details in the print are very sharp. The plate mark is quite pronounced. Measurements are 6" by 8 3/4" inside the plate mark and the sheet measures 11 5/8" by 14 1/4", extending well beyond the mat...

Rare, large folio size (16 1/2" by 20 3/4" inside the existing mat) hand-colored original 19th century lithograph print "Lake Winnipiseogee from Centre Harbor, N.H.". This is a fine and desirable image, examples of which have appeared at auction in New England. Lake Winnipesaukee is the large lake with islands that occupies a portion of central New Hampshire, south of the White Mountains. Watercolor painting of a harbor, probably Maine, signed at lower right corner by artist M. Matheson and titled in pencil on the reverse, appropriately, "Quiet Harbor" (with original $35.00 price). The work, on heavy watercolor paper, measures 15 1/2" by 22 1/2". It having slid down under the mat due to the old tape losing its grip, I removed this from the mat and frame, which are (possibly) available at no extra charge. The fairly ordinary frame measures 22 1/2" by 27 1/2"...

A primitive, circa 1880's oil on gray board landscape painting in the Hudson River style, with trees, water, and tiny figures completing the view. Measurements are 18 3/4" by 24 1/2", unframed. There is no signature. The board is slightly warped from old moisture exposure, which caused paint instability/flaking/losses at top couple of inches, as shown, and cracking at lower right. There are also a few light abrasions as shown.

An example of the lithograph "Cecile's Chastity", from the series "Three Plays from the Marquis de Sade", issued in 1969, signed in pencil lower right, numbered 52/160 at lower left, by the world-famous surrealist artist SALVADOR DALI (1904-1989). The unframed sheet measures 25 1/2" by 19 1/2". The image area is clean and problem-free, though I note significant browning and staining in the margins, the outline of a previous mat clearly visible. Careful framing/mat would minimize most of this...

This is the original cartoon art (5" by 16 3/4") for the daily strip of June 26, year unknown, by well known figure in American cartoon art, MERRILL BLOSSER (1892-1983). Blosser drew the comic strip for over 50 years, from 1915 to 1965. He started professionally in 1912 at the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, worked for Motor Cycling Magazine, and contributed to Denton Publishing in Cleveland...

Oil on panel, 12" by 9", unframed, signed at lower left "Brandon" or "Granlee"; hard to decipher, but the signature has a professional look to it. The work features flaming yellow aspen in fall, it would appear. Rapidly painted with highly impressionistic strokes, the work is complete. The sticker on back with 888 phone number indicates a date of execution after 1996. Put a standard size 12" by 9" frame around this and hang it on the wall.

An etching featuring cattle driven through a wood in a storm, 3 1/2" by 5 1/2" inside the mat, 8 1/2" by 10 1/2" in interesting simple wood frame with hand cut design, the work by noted American artist PETER MORAN (1841-1914). The title is "Showery Weather", and the print was issued in the year 1889. Moran was the youngest of the well-known Moran brothers of American art (Thomas, and Edward). He was born in England and was in the United States by 1844...

An impressive work, oil on canvas laid on Masonite, circa 1950, featuring a twilight view of the Seine, bridge, Notre Dame, and numerous pedestrians and vehicles, all in an impressionistic hand, measuring 23" by 31" (31" by 39" in attractive period distressed style white frame)...

A gray soapstone carving of a blubbery walrus, measuring roughly 8" by 2" by 2". These carvings, which make great paperweights, sold as tourist art in northern, Arctic regions of Canada at mid century remain popular, and a secondary market has evolved. The artist has reduced the familiar animal to a stylized, modern form. Condition is good with no chips. See several other similar works in my shop.

Original lithograph print "The Great East River Suspension Bridge" (the Brooklyn Bridge), 1881, by the noted American printmakers Currier and Ives. A finely worked sepia ink drawing of a Paris street scene, titled at top "Eglise et Seminaire St. Nicolas du Chardonnet", signed at lower right "Delaunay" and dated there 1867. The 6 1/2" by 7 1/2" drawing (11" by 13 1/4" as framed) features a Roman Catholic church in the fifth Arrondissement, on the south bank of the Seine, sometimes known as the Latin Quarter.
