Oil on canvas laid on board painting of a windswept cypress type tree by the coast dunes, 8 1/2" by 4 1/4" (14 1/2" by 10 1/2" attractively framed). Although unsigned (and Detreville's output frequently WAS unsigned), the handling, subject matter and color palette are strong indicators of the hand of the noted California painter. I have owned and sold other unsigned paintings as being by Detreville, and I will stand by this being one of his works...

Oil on canvas painting of a young woman seen in 3/4 view, signed at upper left (incised) Dan A Griggs and dated there '90. The work measures 10 1/2" by 8" (16" by 14" framed). I opened the backing to see if there was any more information on the talented artist but was stymied by the foamboard being partially affixed to the canvas. The framer's stamp, very faint, is from Alamagordo in southern New Mexico. Note the beautiful, skilled handling of the light, the composition, and paint...

A nice miniature painting done, in watercolor on natural material, by Ebenezer Mack. The sitter is dressed in a black jacket, and a white vest, shirt, and stock. Housed in its original gold case.

Although all of Mack's works are quite naïvely rendered, this example is even more primitive than most, indicating that it was done quite early in his career, probably in the 1785 time frame. His works are very rare, and he did not sign his paintings...

A stunning Pair of Antique Japanese Meiji Period (1868-1912) paper doors, depicting 2 hunting noblemen on elegant horses with bows and arrows on the first panel, as well as pine trees on the second panel. Very finely hand painted. Script/Signature on the bottom right side of the second panel. Condition: 1st panel has a repaired torn area and both doors show aging/flaking of the paper at the very bottom. These doors are framed in black wood as shown in the photos. Watercolor on paper, 17 1/2" by 23 1/4" inside the mat (22" by 28" in very complementary jet-black and silver framing), signed at lower right in pencil "Swanson" and dated there 2002. This handsome, elegant watercolor is by artist ROY E. SWANSON, obviously a skilled hand, though I cannot seem to actually find a listing for the artist. There is a listing for a RAY Swanson (Cowboy Artists of America), but this is not that artist...

Beautifully executed watercolor signed at lower left "DAVIES", of a male mallard in flight above a tawny field. Measurements 4 3/8" by 6 7/8" (11 3/8" by 13 1/2" as framed). I see there are a few listed Davies artists but am not sure that this is one of them. If you like wildlife and sporting art or are a member of Ducks Unlimited, you will like this little painting! .

A print I first thought could be Pennsylvania Dutch imagery, but which now appears to be of some European origin, perhaps the Appenzell area of Switzerland, or elsewhere in Europe. A Google search reveals that the imagery is actually used on the cover of a Spanish reader book, so perhaps this is a Spanish origin. Measurements are 17" by 13 1/2" framed. Daniel Tretiak wrote about prints that were new to him (in 2017) that included, in my (LDT)view, one of the strangest, hard-to-decipher prints that the artist ever did, Bai-1. It was an early one, created in 1958.
