Grace Carpenter HudsonBorn in Potter Valley near Ukiah, CA on Feb. 21, 1865- 1937. It is oil on fine silk laid on board, 14" by 14" and signed G Hudson lower left circa 1895-1905. It is in overall good condition with minor frame rubbiing on bottom left. Provenance: Private Midwestern Collection, Leslie Hindman Auction, Private Midwestern Collection by direct descent, Purchased from Artist.

Watercolor on paper painting of classic buttes and mesas of the great Southwest, possibly Arizona or Utah, 22 1/2" by 28" as framed, the work signed in very small writing at lower right with what appears as "E. T. Bell" and dated there July 4, 1933 (or, possibly, 1935). The painting is a strong watercolor by a talented hand but if I am reading this correctly, there does not appear to be a known artist of that name...

Aquatint and etching on paper, 13 1/4" by 18" (20" by 24 1/4" as framed), signed at lower right and numbered "283" at lower left, the subject the world famous Notre Dame de Paris cathedral in central Paris at twilight, seen in the classic southeast view from the banks of the adjacent Seine River, by the French artist MANUEL ROBBE (1872-1936). I believe the title of this work is indeed "Notre Dame at Twilight", or, just "Notre Dame de Paris"; it dates to the year 1925...

Additionally the piece is pencil signed by the artist at right just below the image and titled "The Cloister" at top right in pencil. The artist is New Jersey-born HENRY J. Old Japanese mechanical toy as amateur wooden handicraft from Showa period, 20th century. When wheeled back and forward tightly, head shaking and wings flapping but as barely and awkwardly and just lovely. (So, more like a decorative object than practical movable toy, please.) approx. W 27.5 x D 18 x H 19cm (10.82 x 7.08 x 7.48in)...

Hudson River School style watercolor on paper, 13 1/2" by 19" inside the mat, 24" by 30" as framed, signed at lower right "Byron Albee". This is a subtle, delicate, beautifully executed watercolor of trees and a line of stones next to a pond. Because it IS so subtle, it does not photograph impressively; but in person it is appealing. The work has survived the years in excellent condition with only a bit of well balanced overall browning of the paper...

A delightful c1908 miniature painted by Mildred E. Walker (listed in Who's Who of American Art as having worked in New York.) The young child has a mass of red hair, brown eyes, and is dressed in a blue blouse. The reverse of the gilt metal case identifies the sitter as "Spiky/Aged 3 years/October 1908." Artist signed along the left edge "Mildred E. Walker 1908."

The case size is 3" by 2 3/8"...

A small pencil drawing of several structures on rolling hillsides, drawn in a very impressionist hand, and signed "A C Goodwin" at lower right by one of Boston's most beloved artists, ARTHUR CLIFTON GOODWIN (1864-1929). Written on the backing presumably by another hand and at a later date is the artist's name and "Berkshire Landscape, pencil drawing". The work was acquired in suburban Sudbury, Massachusetts...

Oil on gray academy board painting, 12" by 17 7/8", 16" by 22" in the rather battered old framing, unsigned, probably executed in the latter years of the nineteenth century in New England. The artist created a comforting scene with a folk art feel, the handling of the trees and structure charmingly primitive. More than likely, this will need a new frame. There is a roughly circular dark area as seen at lower left, about 1" in diameter, that has been abraded...
