A hand painted vintage copy of perhaps HENRI MATISSE's most famous painting, "The Dessert: Harmony in Red", one of his Fauvist masterpieces dating to 1908. That large work about 71" by 87", hangs in the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia. You on the other hand can own this faithful copy, painted very sensitively by a talented unknown hand, most likely in the 1960's or 1970's. Impressionist oil on wood panel painting of coastal islands and a religious shrine perched on a scenic rise, 13 3/4" by 16 3/4" as framed, signed in Greek at lower right. This work has some age, dating perhaps to mid-century. The surface is a bit soiled and the frame has some wear at top corners as seen. A Greek speaker has seen the signature and advises me it reads "Kaitatze" in English, or similar.
