There is little biographical information on Simonetti, and it has been suggested that it is a pseudonym for Gian Gianni who was one of the last of the view painters of Italy. Gianni worked mostly in watercolor and produced views of Naples and Venice for people who were making the Grand Tour...

From our European Collection, a lovely and substantially-sized 19th century nautical oil painting of ships in a European port, signed and dated S. Brade 1871. This painting is in excellent condition with only the typical fine craquelure expected in paintings of its age. UV light inspection suggests possible small random areas of touch-up to the sky, but otherwise this piece has survived well in fine original, essentially unrestored condition...

Oil on beveled heavy oak panel painting of a man and a woman talking through the iron bars of a large wall opening of a residence compound, providing a view into more greenery beyond, potted flowering plants and vines framing the central imagery, 14 1/4" by 8 1/2", unframed, signed in red at lower right "F. GOMEZ SOLANO" and dated there 1891. This is a charming little gem of a painting with fine detail and wonderful handling of the Mediterranean sunlight and shadow...

The overlay on the left shows an original drawing by Rubens layed over an image on the Flemish painting. Please refer to the Flemish Painting in our listing. The image on the right shows an overlay using a drawing by Rubens self-portrait. This drawing matches the image on the Flemish painting. Small oil on board painting of houses at left, feathery trees occupying the right hand side of the composition, unsigned, 8" by 11 1/2" (11 1/2" by 15" in mid 20th century frame). The painting reminds one of the Dutch Old Masters though it was very likely executed in the 19th century, perhaps in England. It shows evidence of its age, with soiling, a missing fleck at right center (the white spot) and some smallish scrapes in sky at upper left...

PAIR of decorative oil on board paintings executed circa 1970, in the classical style of the 17th or 18th century, each 6 3/4" by 5" (12" by 10" in the frames), each signed "H. Muriel". The paintings are affordable and will nicely fill that small wall in need of some art. Frames have the slightest of wear, the paintings are in excellent shape.

Known for: portrait, figure, still life, murals. Emanuel Romano became a painter, illustrator, muralist and teacher in New York City where from 1944 to 1945 he taught at the City College of New York. One of his murals is in the Klondike Building, Welfare Island, New York...

A large and impressive oil on canvas landscape painting created in 1984 by the noted Spanish impressionist master artist JULIAN GRAU SANTOS (1937-). The flickering brush has left colorful dabs that pull together to form a most beautiful painting, a painting large enough to be the centerpiece of your room. The work measures 32" by 39" (39" by 46" in gold framing). It is signed at lower left, and on the reverse is titled "La casa junto a la roca"...

Oil on canvas on board, 18" by 27", unframed, signed at lower left by artist OSWALD SCHLOMBS (1876-1926), and titled in pencil on reverse "Herbst" ("autumn", in German). The artist though listed is not well known, though obviously talented...

Oil or acrylic painting on canvas, 12" by 16", presently unframed, with notation on stretcher "CORTONA ITALY SEPT. 2007" and a signature that looks like "Mylius". Cortona is a town in Tuscany. The artist I believe was American. His or her style is charmingly primitive/naive. The color harmony is very pleasing, and condition is excellent...

A nicely worked oil on canvas, 21" by 29" plus almost 1" wide old frame, the subject an extensive continental European landscape with figures on shore and in a small boat, a dog, wading and resting cows, trees and classic buildings, signed at lower right by artist "O. Kirkman" and dated there 1858. The more one studies this the more detail one sees. This antique painting will need restoration and it is well worth the effort to bring it back to displayable condition...
