Floyd, a notable porcelain artist in Alexandria, learned to paint on porcelain in the early 1970’s and taught her craft in workshops for the Fairfax County Adult Education program.

She was a Pennsylvania native who attended a business college before moving to Washington in 1941 to work as a secretary in the Pentagon...

A wonderful oil painting on canvasboard in naive/primitive style, 12" by 16" and featuring happy children sledding down a hill in Central Park in New York City one cold winter afternoon near dusk. The work is titled at lower right "Central Park" and is signed at lower left by artist MARY RUBY ORKIN (1894-1987). On the reverse is written "Copyrighted 1958 by Mark Orkin/Central Park West NYC 10023/#7 Sledding Hill at Sunset behind the Met"...

Oil on canvas paintings laid on board, each 5" by 9 3/4" (8 1/2" by 13" framed), unsigned, the pair appearing to depict the exact same coastal dune, with interesting perhaps seasonal differences----one showing spring dune flowers, the other not----. The scene could possibly be dunes at the beach in San Francisco, where Golden Gate Park meets the ocean...

A Fine Painting by the Listed Riverside, California Artist, Myrna Elwell (1902-?). The Painting measures about 18" by 18" in its frame of about 24 1/2" by 24 1/2". Signed lower right as shown. A little dirty and some wear to frame, overall quite nice.

Oil on canvasboard painting of an autumnal scene, 8" by 10" (14" by 17 1/4" in gold style framing), titled on the reverse "Eaton Canyon/Altadena, CA" and dated there 1999, signed on the front at lower left corner by the listed California contemporary plein air artist RAY CUEVAS 1932-2020. Cuevas since the mid 1980's has been known for his works featuring local scenes in the San Gabriels and vicinity, as well as other parts of Southern California...

Wonderful old oil painting on board of two hunting dog puppies quizzically studying a frog. Signed "Ida Graham" in lower left corner, in frame it measures 12" x 14", sight size 9" x 11".

Oil on canvas, somewhat spontaneous and sketchy image of a formally dressed couple at a social event, circa "fin de siecle", 14" by 10 3/4" (20" by 17" as framed), signed at lower right with the distinctive signature of French early to mid century artist YVES DIEY (1892-1984). Diey is well known in France particularly, where his pastels and oil paintings of nude, or semi-clothed attractive women, sometimes in exotic settings, make frequent appearances at public auction...

Oil on canvas laid on board painting of small boats on a tree lined lake or river, buildings beyond, 9 1/2" by 11 1/4" in a contemporary simple frame 1 1/2" wide on a side, signed at lower right "C. Brockelmann" and dated there '13. This is a lovely, attractive, clean, pleasing work, ready for the wall despite being a century old, by the Austrian artist CAMILLO (CARL) BROCKELMANN (1883-1963)...

Oil on canvas landscape of a busy scene I believe to be along the Potomac River in Alexandria, Virginia, 13" by 25" as framed in narrow blond ash, signed at lower right by Torpedo Art Center artist ANNE B. LANDRY. Some internet research enabled me to identify the artist. Landry is a New Orleans native and graduate of Newcomb Art School at Tulane there, who after some time in the corporate world in New York elected to move to the Washington, D.C...

A circa 1880 American painting on canvas of a white clapboard house on a farm or rural land, the structure surrounded by bare trees, white fences and outbuildings, a sitting dog strategically placed at center staring directly at the viewer. The work measures 18" by 22" and 22" by 25" framed...

Contemporary painting of a young woman in summery attire, teasing the viewer as she clings to her white wide-brimmed hat, 24" by 36", unframed, signed at right by contemporary American artist R. BAILEY. I do not see information on an artist by this name. The painting is reminiscent of classic 20th century pin-up illustration art. It is in excellent display condition.

Small English oil on board landscape painting in period frame by E Locht and dated 18?8. Colors are vibrant. In excellent antique condition, it measure including frame 14.5ʺ wide × 11ʺ high

Oil on canvas, 30" by 25" and 1 1/4" wide frame, unsigned, the subject two ladies and a cradled baby, in a traditional European interior of the nineteenth century. Due to the stretcher and canvas weave, I believe this is actually a work by an American artist, who skillfully copied a master work from Europe (probably Italian, or, Tyrol area/South German?)...

Oil on canvas of a clapboard cottage by a lake in spring, 18" by 24" with 3" frame, signed at lower left "J.C. FRANCES". I do not see a listing for the artist but he or she was obviously at the very least familiar with the paintings of Henry Pember Smith (1854-1907) and George W. Drew (1875-1968), who painted eerily similar scenes. This painting shows a gambrel roofed cottage with blooming pink blossomed trees and ducks----an idyllic spring idyll in New England or New York state perhaps...

Oil on canvas painting of high snowy mountains framed by aspen in late autumn, 12" by 16" (17 1/4" by 20 1/2" nicely framed) signed in the wet paint by well listed American artist EDWARD NORTON WARD (1928-). This might well be a scene in northern New Mexico or southern Colorado, but the artist was known to have painted in many locales in the American west, including Montana, Oregon and Alaska. Ward, a native Californian, moved to the Monterey area in the mid 1950's...

Oil on masonite, circa late 1940's or early 1950's, 16 1/2" by 23 1/2" (22" by 31 1/2" as framed), signed at lower left by Pittsburgh artist PERRY DAVIS. This is a beautifully painted work by an obviously talented artist, although I have not to date found a listing on him. There's a label on the reverse of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh, 37th Annual Exhibition with the title, and artist's address. The painting has a strong WPA feeling to it...

At first glance this appears to be a 17th century Dutch landscape oil on panel by someone like Ruisdael, Hobbema, Cuyp, Van Goyen, or other famous artists of that time and place...
