Aquatint and etching on paper, 13 1/4" by 18" (20" by 24 1/4" as framed), signed at lower right and numbered "283" at lower left, the subject the world famous Notre Dame de Paris cathedral in central Paris at twilight, seen in the classic southeast view from the banks of the adjacent Seine River, by the French artist MANUEL ROBBE (1872-1936). I believe the title of this work is indeed "Notre Dame at Twilight", or, just "Notre Dame de Paris"; it dates to the year 1925...

Tours is an historical old city of about 135,000 south and west of Paris, considered a gateway to the Loire Valley chateau region. Max Pollak, Austrian/American, 1886-1970, "L'Dia". A very fine original etching in colors by Max Pollak, image size 11 1/2 x 4 3/8 inches, c. 1930, from a small edition of 60 impressions, pencil signed, titled and numbered. Max Pollak was grew up in Vienna, Austria and attended the Vienna Academy of Art where he studied with portrait artist Fernand Schmutzer. Pollack became well known for his portraits and his etchings, and in 1910 won the Prix de Rome...

This large print is an etching on paper in dark brown ink, and a heavily inked example at that, the subject apparently "Turkish Cemetery", according to a pencil notation in the upper left margin. Measuring 19" by 20" inside the mat (28" by 28 1/2" as framed), the work is signed in pencil in margin at lower left with the distinctive signature of the noted English modern art figure FRANK BRANGWYN (1867-1956)...

**ONE OF TWO OF THIS PRINT IN MY SHOP (this one in better condition). **Etching of Victorian children playing in an interior, 10 1/2" by 8 1/4" inside the mat, 16" by 13" framed, pencil signed "R. Ernst" at lower right. This is an unusual medium for the artist, best known for his highly finished and detailed oil paintings of Orientalist subjects of North Africa and the Middle East. These oils regularly bring hundreds of thousands of dollars at auction...

Harold Kerr Eby 1889-1946 American This is an original etching and aquatint by American artist Kerr Eby. The subject is Eby's home which he named Driftway, in Westport Connecticut. This etching is hand signed in pencil and has an image size of 8 3/8X15 3/8 inches. Printed in an edition of 100 in 1939. This image appears in the Giardina catalog as image number 196. Printed on a medium weight laid type paper.

A very interesting etching of what appears to be Paris' Montmartre section, (the windmill a famous feature, painted by many artists), signed in pencil in the lower right margin "B. Vilard". Surprisingly I do not see a listing for an artist by this name---could possibly be a pen name.. The work measures 8 1/2" by 11" inside the mat and 13 3/4" by 16 1/4" framed. It is very clean and fresh, despite likely dating to the first half of the 20th century. Note the subtle blue/brown colors.

Peirce was born in upstate New York and educated at the Art Students League and the Cleveland School of Art...
