A large engraving of a mythological scene of Venus after her bath getting ready for a date with Adonis. The print was made by Etienne Baudet the French engraver who also worked in Rome. It is dated 1672. The print is after one of a series of 4 paintings by Francesco Albani that were commissioned by the Duke of Mantua in 1621. In 1990 Haku Maki produced as many as 6 different images of famed Mt Fuji(Fuji-san). Here are three, each one printed from a different block.

This Maki print has had a charmed existence. It was printed in Japan in the mid-70s, just as Maki was beginning to leave the production of prints with kanji as the main theme and start doing then with Ceramics, mainly in the Collection series. A colorful lithograph by the famous Spanish artist JOAN MIRO (1893-1983), pencil numbered at lower left 77/375 in European-looking writing with horizontal cross of the "7"s. On the backing is an old label of Jamin Editions of Van Nuys, California, who may have issued this print. Dimensions inside the mat are 25 1/2" by 19 1/2" (32 1/2" by 26 3/4" in brushed aluminum metal frame). The image was created for the 1970 Sala Pelaires exhibition, Palma de Mallorca...

In 1976 Haku Maki did three pairs of prints in which the black and white were reversed. One set is shown here. The cement blocks were used to print the white on black, then cleaned to do black on white. These were done in such themes as Mind Wind and Cloud. These are strong sweeping images in rather large prints. The two Wind images here are typical of the type. They are all about 15" x 20" and in editions of 150.
