Daniel Tretiak wrote about prints that were new to him (in 2017) that included, in my (LDT)view, one of the strangest, hard-to-decipher prints that the artist ever did, Bai-1. It was an early one, created in 1958.

A large engraving of a mythological scene of Venus after her bath getting ready for a date with Adonis. The print was made by Etienne Baudet the French engraver who also worked in Rome. It is dated 1672. The print is after one of a series of 4 paintings by Francesco Albani that were commissioned by the Duke of Mantua in 1621. Ovesized Japanese limited edition copperplate etching titled “Takafune Village” by Tanaka Ryohei (1933-2019). Pencil-signed, dated 2004, and numbered 8/100 in the lower margin. Paper size: 22 1/8" x 14 3/4" (image: 18 1/4" x 10 3/4"). This etching was never framed and is in excellent condition.

Aquatint on paper 20" by 14" (32" by 24 1/2" in tasteful framing, with quality materials), signed in pencil at lower right corner within the image, the subject a lady intensely examining a print from a bulging portfolio in a studio, other works visible in other portfolios and hanging on the wall. Diane d’Ephese Lithograph dated 1794 Measuring 15x9”

This is an etching on paper, 7" by 6" (12" by 9 1/4" framed) by Tennessee born artist JAMES CARL HANCOCK (1898-1966), titled "THE GATE OF THE LIONS NEW ORLEANS LA." at lower right and signed in pencil below and dated there 1939. This is a view of old French Quarter New Orleans by a talented etcher. Hancock was self taught and in 1938 a book of his etchings, drypoints and sketches was published. Anders Zorn 1860-1920 Sweden This is a fine portrait etching by European artist Anders Zorn. This pencil signed etching titled Guill II was created and printed in 1918. The image measures 7 3/4X5 3/4 . This pencil signed impression is lightly evenly toned and archivally framed. This image appears in the zorn catalog as image number 165.

A color print, 14 1/2" by 25" (23 1/2" by 33 1/2" framed), titled at lower left margin "Eve of St. John by Peter Hurd", pencil signed at lower right margin by the noted American artist, PETER HURD (1904-1984). This print, which appears to be rather scarce, dates to about 1960. It is after one of his most famous paintings, which I believe now rests in the collection of the San Diego Museum of Art...

Original etching with aquatint by Luigi Kasimir (Austria, 1881-1962) of the Fulton Fish Market in New York, circa 1936. Pencil signed by the artist (not an estate etching created and signed by the family) and numbered 25/100. In excellent framed condition.

This print Z-446B was one of a small number of creations that he put on hard, gold-edged board. Daniel Tretiak wrote that these prints “were printed first on very thin paper, which was then ‘wrapped’ around heavy shikishi board. They are lithographs not done from wood blocks. Done in 1999, this work measures 7.25in x 8.25in, is in excellent condition, and one of an edition of 77.

Sir William Russell Flint 1880-1969 British This is an original drypoint etching by British artist William Russell Flint. The title is Aragonese String Makers, it was created and printed in 1930. It is editioned as impression number XXVII... The image measures 9 1/2X14 3/4 inches. Printed on an early laid type paper, R.G. 1820. The image is signed in sepia ink lower right border. A very rich inking with extensive use of plate tone in the sky and land. A beautiful impression...

In the early 1980s Haku Maki produced this unusual print, Poem 3. It has a kanji bottom margin (Mountain and Water) and is only slightly embossed. It is as if he started to do a lithograph and then decided to emboss it a bit. It is a modest-size print and not spectacular. By the time he did this print Maki had finished with embossed kanji and ceramics and was heading toward less compelling work.Poem 3 has a gold sun right center, but the print has no drama and no oomph. 15x15cm.

A circa 1950 artistic black and white photo of the docks at Monterey, California, pencil signed on the mount as "Edna S Deuren" or similar. The gentlemen standing at left with fedoras and cap are looking down on the small fishing craft at a time when Monterey's fishing industry was in high gear. Measurements are 9 1/4" by 7 1/4" (photo itself) and 20 1/2" by 17" as framed. Condition is very good.

Some time ago one Connie Elrod offered me a set of the Maki zodiac in a format never seen before or since. These are not pulled from cement blocks. Rather they seem to be printed lithographs.
