Berthe Morisot 1841-1895 French This is a very fine original drypoint etching by French Impressionist Berthe Morisot. This etching created and printed in 1889 is the second state of two. Printed on wove type paper this is a fine impression prior to the later impressions where the cancellation holes were filled. The image measures 7 1/2X5 1/2 inches. Haku Maki did these huge prints from 1970 to 1973. This is Poem Reconciliation done in 1970. It is a big image; it boldly flows across the paper. It is clean not busy, dramatic and elegant. It is from an edition of 50. I have only ever seen this one number of the edition. It has a dazzling yellow sun and sharp red tear that balance the kanji in the center. It is signed and chopped and re-signed in black ink next to the chop. Everything clicks. It is 35in x 35in.

A double signed photogravure done by the son of Douglas Volk circa 1900 with a drawing of the Volk Life Mask of Lincoln and a drawing of the hand of Lincoln in the selvage. As a footnote, this work was presented by Douglas Volk to Daniel Chester French (1850-1931) as a gift on the occasion of the dedication of the Lincoln Memorial in 1922.

A fine aquatint print circa 1930's, the subject one of the famous canals of old Bruges, Belgium, pencil signed at lower right margin by French artist FREDERIC LOUIS LEVE (1877-1968), and numbered in pencil 86 at lower left margin, where there is a blind stamp in the paper. Leve was a painter in oil and watercolor but is most widely known for his skill in aquatint, a form of etching which lends itself to creating prints that look very much like watercolor...

Original carborundum etching with aquatint by Karel Appel (Dutch, 1921-2006). Signed and dated 1975 in pencil by the artist lower right; also numbered 35/50 lower left. The title of this large work is "Night Face in Broadway". Well framed.

Work 73-12A is a firm and strong dragon not fierce not wimpy. The central kanji is offset by a small yellow Maki sun at the top left and a red splash on the right. They counterbalance each other and give color and verve to the whole print.

Haku Maki tried to work until he died; the last images were not pretty. They were printed first on very thin paper, which was then “wrapped” around heavy shikishi board. They are lithographs not done from wood blocks. From the late 1980s Maki had stopped doing embossed prints turning instead to collages and lithographed prints. Joseph Pennell 1857-1926 American This is an original pencil signed lithograph by American artist Joseph Pennell. He traveled down to Panama in 1912 to record the building of the Canal. He created a series of images from that trip. This image is titled Cranes at Miraflores Lock, Panama, Printed in an edition of only 100. This image measures 22 1/4X16 3/4 inches on a Fabiano watermarked, laid type paper. Sheet size is 25 1/2X 20 1/2 inches.

An old original label on reverse has a 1978 date, so I would imagine the print dates to the late 1970's. The ink is a greenish black. Moisture has compromised the margins and mold stained and rippled them; reframing would help exclude that...
