AMERICAN ARTIST SEGER LINOLEUM CUT OF LINCOLN-DOUGLAS DEBATE
Measuring 32” x 26”
These are 3 different “takes” of the kanji for Stone.
Red is Work 74-58 (Stone) ; Green is 76-56 (Stone);
Blue is 76-54 (Stone).
The green one is larger than the other two. All have the striking black sun as one stroke of the kanji.
Etching, 4 3/4" by 6 5/8" inside the mat, 10" by 12 1/2" in simple black strip frame, titled in pencil at left margin "A Bermuda Lane" and signed in margin in pencil at lower right by artist RAY ALLEN. I do not see a listing for an artist of this name. The work likely dates to about the 1950's I would think, and is probably still in its original frame. The impression is strong, with a distinct plate mark. Disregard false yellow colors in some of the photos, which are an effect of the camera...

This is a print from the original woodblocks, of the work "Jongleur", 1938, from the series "Le Cirque de l'Etoile Filante (Circus of the Shooting Star) by the important French artist GEORGES ROUAULT (1871-1958). The print is quite small, 2 7/8" by 2 1/8" inside the mat (9 1/2" by 8 1/4" as framed). I believe that this is from the edition published at a later date by the Collectors' Guild of New York, as other examples I have seen are identically framed, and with their label on the reverse...
