The famous large folio size Currier and Ives lithograph of 1864, "Winter in the Country" (sometimes referred to by its subtitle, "Getting Ice") is a very desirable image, and the original printing is very rare, highly coveted by collectors, and in 2002 with the late George Cohenour of Pennsylvania, Currier expert and publisher of a widely used price guide, that print is likely the most rare in the entire Currier and Ives production history...

This print Z-446B was one of a small number of creations that he put on hard, gold-edged board. Daniel Tretiak wrote that these prints “were printed first on very thin paper, which was then ‘wrapped’ around heavy shikishi board. They are lithographs not done from wood blocks. Done in 1999, this work measures 7.25in x 8.25in, is in excellent condition, and one of an edition of 77.

Linocut print, the sheet 10 1/4" by 14", unframed, numbered at lower left 70/100 and pencil signed at lower right and dated there 1971, the "HB" blind stamp nearby, by the important and still highly underrated Swiss-California modernist HANS GUSTAV BURKHARDT (1904-1994). A vintage, 1972 re-issue of the Maurits Cornelius Escher print "Metamorphose" (1939-40), possibly a posthumous or commemorative printing, as its date coincides with the year of Escher's death. The publisher is given at far right margin as G. W. Breughel, and this was printed in Holland. Measurements are an unusual 8 3/4" by 41" in the narrow black metal frame (presently no glass). The work has been laid on foamboard...

A circa 1920's to 1940's old reprint of the much-loved classic Currier and Ives lithograph "American Winter Scenes", with a horse-drawn sleigh heading towards the snug home at right in which a party appears to be held. The piece measures 23 1/2" by 30 1/2" in what I believe is a birdseye maple frame. Condition is very good, vintage condition. The original 19th century lithograph is very expensive; this reasonable alternative will provide the same decorative punch.

The title is "Daphne and Apollo", the imagery consisting of idealized male and female figures with leafy trees in the background, creating a most interesting and modern composition that looks almost like a "solarized" photo.
