A decorative print, 27" by 23 1/2" in its white wood frame with blue inner fillet, after the painting "Blue Bouquet" by the important modern French artist BERNARD BUFFET (1928-1999). The painting was produced in 1957, so the print likely dates to the late 1950's or early 1960's. There are light scratches at lower right measuring about 4", and some small loss areas at upper left showing as white spots...

Vintage poster "Presence des Maitres", 1967, published by the Swiss gallery Galerie Beyeler to publicize their exhibition of works by the likes of Chagall, Klee, Giacometti, Cezanne, Monet, Dufy, Rouault, Mondrian, Picasso, Braque and Bonnard. The unframed piece measures 33" by 20" in simple black frame (NO GLASS). The poster shows definite evidence of age, with blotchy old brownish discolorations/staining and some light abrasions at lower right...

Miro lithograph, "La Danse de Feu", ("The Fire Dance"), 1963, Mourlot 273, the sheet 15" by 22" (17 1/2" by 23 1/2" as framed), numbered in pencil 39/90 at lower left and pencil signed at lower center. The work is printed to the edges with no margin, and there is text on reverse, as shown. There is a soft center crease as issued with 1/4"-1/2" short tears along that pronounced crease at the very bottom and top due to the weakness from having been repeatedly folded...

A print I first thought could be Pennsylvania Dutch imagery, but which now appears to be of some European origin, perhaps the Appenzell area of Switzerland, or elsewhere in Europe. A Google search reveals that the imagery is actually used on the cover of a Spanish reader book, so perhaps this is a Spanish origin. Measurements are 17" by 13 1/2" framed. Condition is very good, with just some overall age toning of the paper and some light rumpling at bottom margin...

Photographic print, 24" by 18" protected in a plastic poster box, issued by the Musee D'art Moderne in Paris for a 1963 exhibition of the works of noted French 20th century painter GEORGES MATHIEU (1921-2012), today considered a major artist, the large oils of whom regularly command over $100,000 at auctions in the US and Europe...

The image on the left was done in 1970 the other in 1971. The image at the left looks like 2 or 3 quick brush strokes. It is very delicate. It can mean clothing. The image at the right is heavy, many brush strokes, a complicated kanji. It can mean depression. It is Poem 71-14.

Early and rarely encountered oversized Japanese limited edition sosaku hanga “kappa-ban” (stencil print) by Yoshitoshi Mori (1898-1992) depicting tradesmen. The print is pencil-signed “Yoshitoshi Mori” at the lower right, dated ’68, and numbered 28/60. The artist’s red seal is above the signature. The paper measures 26 1/2”V x 21 1/2”H. The print is in good overall condition. The portion of the paper edge that was previously covered by a mat is very sightly darker...

In 1968 Haku Maki completed his Animal Song series. It was 12 different prints, one for each year of the Chinese/Japanese zodiac. Each print had the title Animal Song and the kanji for the animal, which was not translated. This print, Animal Song [dragon], 14/50, is a beautiful Maki red. The dragon of the image is a very traditional Chinese character for dragon. In this print Maki used the theme dragon for the first time. This dashing abstract kanji seems to almost swirl out of the paper...

This is an original lithograph by the famous French artist MARC CHAGALL (1887-1985), titled "Le Clown Fleuri" (Clown with Flowers), 1963, from "Lithographes Originales de Marc Chagall", printed by Mourlot. There was a signed (1962) edition with margins, and examples sell between $6,000 and $12,000 at auction (size significantly larger). This appears to be from the unsigned 1963 edition of 2,000 examples, which were of this smaller size...

Haku Maki in 1968 did a group of prints depicting animals from Asia’s Zodiac, which has an animal for each year in a 12-year cycle. Maki called this series of prints Animal Song. This one is Animal Song 申, the character for the Year of the Monkey. The print is square, measuring 17 1/8 in W x 17 1/8in H, and is in excellent condition.
