Tours is an historical old city of about 135,000 south and west of Paris, considered a gateway to the Loire Valley chateau region. A vintage study in charcoal of an infant on its back, 12" by 15" (16" by 19" framed), signed at lower right with what appears as "H Collins", and dated adjacent Sept. 14, 1953. I do not see a listed name that would correspond with this name or variants of it. The study is artistic, reminiscent of timeless Italian Renaissance drawings. There is age toning of the paper and some lighter, whitish areas at lower left, above the infant's left arm, and at lower right.

Harold Kerr Eby 1889-1946 American This is an original etching and aquatint by American artist Kerr Eby. The title is Refugees, a study from his series of WWI images that he created as a War Artist. This pencil signed impression has an image size of 9 15/16X14 7/8 inches. This impression was last sold by Keppel in New York, it came to us in the original frame. A dramatic rich impression printed by the artist himself.

An online search did not turn up a "Wells" artist that would obviously fit with this work's subject matter, handling, and period...
