Oil on canvas, 16 1/2" by 28 1/2" (20" by 32" framed), the scene a Mediterranean California style courtyard garden complete with fountain pond, palms and other vegetation, signed at lower left by the artist, one Daisy Dean Lucas, and dated there 1938. A google search shows an interesting tidbit concerning a woman by that name in Kern County, California, estranged from her apparently wealthy husband and attempting to sue him in the year 1937...

This is an original charcoal on paper portrait drawing of a young woman, 18" by 12 1/2" inside the mat (25" by 19" as framed), signed "J Floch" at lower right. His prints and drawings (see a lithograph by the artist, in my shop) are quite affordable, while paintings have brought to the $80,000 area at auction in Europe and America. Floch was born in Austria, but spent the later part of his life in the New York area. From an online biography: "Joseph Floch was born in Vienna, Austria in 1895...

A vintage (mid 20th century) fine charcoal on paper drawing of a young New Mexico woman in traditional shawl, her expressive face beautifully drawn by a trained hand, the work signed at lower right "E. Gonzales". Oddly, I cannot tie this to a listed artist by that name, but the talent is undeniable. Measurements are 22 1/4" by 18 1/2" (25" by 21" in attractive gold framing). The work is in the style of famous artist and influential teacher Nicolai Fechin---perhaps "E...

A contrasty, dramatic lithograph of a man's head, modernist artistic liberties apparent in the design, 15" by 11 1/4" inside the present mat (sheet 16 3/4" by 13 3/4"), as framed 24" by 18 1/2", signed in the plate and again in pencil at lower left center by the noted Chicago-associated twentieth century artist WILLIAM SAMUEL SCHWARTZ (1896-1977)...

Oil on canvas painting of a fetching young woman resting next to what appears to be a drum, 21" by 12" (24" by 14" in wood frame), signed at lower right and again on the reverse (both name and "Firenze"--Florence---) by Italian artist CIPRIANO CEI (1864-1922). The subject looks coyly at the viewer, as she takes a break in her day. An interesting wall of advertising posts at upper left adds interest. Cei was born near Venice and died in Rome...

An example of the 1969 lithograph print, titled variously as "Mascara", ("Mask"), numbered in lower left margin 73/250 and pencil signed at lower right, by the famous Mexican 20th century muralist artist DAVID ALFARO SIQUEIROS (1896-1974). Baskin was born in New Jersey and educated at Yale, where he founded a small fine books press...

BEACH (1865-c. 1934), and dated there 1910. This is an impressive work, perhaps one of the artist's best, with beautiful impressionist technique and colors...

Watercolor on paper painting, 10 1/2" by 13 1/2" (18 1/4" by 21" framed), signed at lower right "J.C. MIDDLETON.", the subject a suburban boathouse in a neighborhood, possibly in southeast England. There are lots of signed prints out there, but few original works, by the hand of famous comedian RED SKELTON (1913-1997), who is said to have said that he made more money from his art than from his entertainment career. This is one of those scarce original works: a pencil drawing of a bird's head---likely a gull, though, possibly a young eagle...

An old unframed watercolor of an Asiatic-looking man in traditional clothing, with pencil writing in Russian at right including the date 19.II.1920. A Russian-speaker informs me that there is no name of an artist, but that the subject is identified as a Buryat. I take from online information: "The Buryat people are descended from various Siberian and Mongol peoples that inhabited the Lake Baikal Region including Kurykans, who are also the ancestors of the Siberian Turkic speaking Yakuts. Then...

This is a sensitively painted work of a subject obviously very familiar to the artist. Kelley studied on a scholarship at the Colorado Institute of Art in Denver, where he counted the artist Charlie Dye among his instructors. A Taos, New Me...
