This Autumn Landscape (13 1/2" X 19 1/4") is signed on the lower left side Francis Villeret. This oil on canvas has been cleaned and it is mounted in a new frame. Villeret was born in 1800 and died in 1866. His art can be found in many European Museums.

Early plaster of Paris group of Saint Anne and her daughter Mary. Saint Anne is seen teaching Mary how to read the Holy Scripture. When dating the little sculpture, the hairstyle of Saint Anne and the narrow waist of Mary’s dress points at a time around 1830 or the reign of Charles X in France. Pedestal and sculpture are separable, the pedestal with traces of an address, Middleton Street in London – probably the address of the original retailer...

The work measures 16" by 19 1/2" (24" by 28" in newish framing). The painting could almost be called "Hudson River style" but it is clearly of European origin. Francois Vuagnat was born in Geneva in 1826. and died in 1910. He was a well known Artist and Photographer. Housed in a 19th century frame with gold liner. A fine scene with the man's trusty companion awaiting dinner.

This is a (not approved) portrait of a Philadelphia merchant named John White Fields. I named this portrait Merchant X by JSS. On 5/11/04 the Portrait was presented to the JSS Catalogue Raisonne Committee. On 5/13, the committee reported it could not attribute this portrait to JSS...

An antique oil on canvas, 19 1/4" by 26 1/2" (27 1/2" by 34 1/2" in gold frame), featuring the oft-painted view of the Wetterhorn peak (3,692 meters) in south-central Switzerland, above the village of Grindelwald. The work is signed with initials at lower center and dated 1859, but to date my efforts to tie it to a particular artist have been unsuccessful. The painting has extensive craquelure in the sky at upper right portion, and there are two small losses elsewhere...

A circa turn of the century oil on canvas painting of a creek and surrounding woods in the autumn of the year, 11 1/2" by 22 1/2", on canvas, and 17 1/2" by 29" in likely original frame, apparently unsigned. The work has survived over a century in excellent condition. No punctures or problems. There are a few chips missing from the frame. A pleasing, easy to live with scene that brings a sense of calm and reflection.
