The artist's view of the aftermath of war in europe. The image measures 10 1/4X13 7/8 inches. It is hand signed, titled, dated and editioned in the lower margin by the artist in pencil. A very interesting and unusual painting, appearing to be gouache on a prepared gessoed panel (and the piece is accordingly quite heavy for its size), featuring Native American indian dancers and onlookers in the Southwest, likely Navajos of New Mexico or northeastern Arizona. The 22 1/2" by 27" unframed work is signed at lower right "Arline Wyrick". A quick google search did not reveal any obvious links to a known artist, but she was obviously quite skilled, and this bears further research...

An example of the 1984 print "San Francisco--The Flying Cloud Arriving in Port after her Record Breaking Passage from New York in 1857", pencil signed by the artist, JOHN STOBART (1929-) at lower right, and numbered 328/750 also at lower right margin. Stobart's original oil paintings of sailing ships of the so-called "Golden Age of Sail" have hammered at auctions to nearly $100,000, with many examples bringing five figures. He is today a very highly regarded artist of marine subjects...

A large (extreme dimensions 64 1/2" by 48 1/2"), colorful work I am tempted to call a "wall sculpture painting", by noted contemporary California artist JOHN ROSE. The impressive piece could grace an institutional setting, as indeed many sculptures by the artist now find themselves in hotels and other public spaces and corporate collections. The photos do not give justice to the three dimensionality of the piece, the strips of painted wood layered in complex patterns...

Max Liebermann 1847-1935 German This is a fine pencil signed lithograph by German artist Max Liebermann (1847-1935) The title is: Wettrennen (Horse race) This lithograph was created and printed in 1915, the image measures 7 1/2X12 inches on a sheet size of 12X16 inches. Printed on a medium weight laid type paper.

A charming pastel portrait by Dorothy Colles which was commisioned for a "Trufood" advertizing poster. Dorothy Colles (1917-2003) was, according to an obituary in the Independent newspaper,"gifted in portraits of children". She has exhibited through the Royal Academy and the Royal Society of Portrait Painting. There is a water 'splash' above the head of the boy which we have not attempted to restore. Otherwise excellent condition. The picture 19.5 inches by 17.3 inches (49.5cm by 44cm)

Original oil or casein painting on board by George Joseph Habergritz (American, 1909-1998), circa 1950, offered in excellent condition. This painting measures 6" by 12" (12" by 18" in its original frame). It is signed l.c. "Habergritz" and titled on the verso: "Mexican Landscape". It is also inscribed: "Artist: George Habergritz, 47 E. 9th St. NYC" and "For Lillian, from George and Maya" (Maya Pollack Habergritz, the artist's wife). Habergritz is listed in all the usual databases...

Original etching by the British artist, Arthur Brisco, measuring 6 1/2 x 10 7/8 inches, 1926, signed and numbered; 62/75, cat: Hurst-158. Britain's "General Strike" was the theme of Brisco's dramatic image of "The Orator". The strike, mainly by coal-miners upset with their goverments' reduction in wages and worsening conditions, also included dockers, printers, power station workers and transport workers, thus Brisco's interest in the subject.

A fine sterling silver sculpture of a Yatch in full sail featuring gold inlay bands on the sail. Titled "Yacth" by Japanese master artist Seki Takehiko, it is in excellent condition the sculpture measures 5.5" high. The complete presentation including the glass case measures 9" long x 6" deep x 9.5" high.

From our African Collection: Cameroon Grasslands Bronze Mask, circa 1900. The Cameroon Grasslands is a large cultural area, which is inhabited by a large number of related peoples. These peoples can be divided into three smaller subgroups: Bamilike, Bamum, and Bamenda Tikar. Within these complexes there are numerous smaller ethnic groups, which are loosely affiliated with one another and share many historical and political similarities while retaining separate identities...

Vintage oil on canvas impressionist landscape with rounded low mountains, a country road passing red barns, 25" by 30" (29 1/2" by 34 1/2" framed), signed at lower right corner with what appears as "D Tutis" or "D Totis" or similar. Although the work resembles that of Vermont painter Earl A. Titus (1895-1962), the signature does not correspond with how he signed. So we have a mystery work here...

Côte d’Ivoire was inhabited in the Neolithic era and possibly earlier, although the humid climate has effaced most traces of the country’s earliest civilizations. Portuguese explorers arrived in the early 1600s, and French missionaries landed near the Gold Coast (Ghana) border in 1637. European contact was limited until the 19th century, mainly due to inhospitable geography along the coastline...

Jean Baptiste Camille Corot, 1796-1875, French, "Paysage d'Italie," Etching, image size 6 x 9 1/8 inches, cat: Melot- C.7, later printing without Cadart lettering, possibly after it was removed. This is a very nice impression with wide borders, printed on a medium weight cream colored laid type paper. This atmospheric image from Corot's series of Italian landscapes is a great example of his ability to capture the life and movement of the scene with loose spontaneous lines and rich tones.

Circa 1885, original oil painting on a board panel of a stag in snow scene by artist A. Huff. Painting is in excellent antique condition with the colors still being vibrant.
