Oil on canvas luminous scene of coastal Greenland, with chunks of blue ice floating in the harbor as tiny structures on the rocks are overwhelmed by the grand landscape, a sole kayaker in the inlet at right center, 27 1/2" by 39 1/2" plus frame 2 1/2" wide on a side, signed at lower left by listed artist ALEXANDER WILLY DANNERFJORD (1904-1961). A beautifully executed miniature folk art watercolor on thin card portrait by J. H. Gillespie, housed in a cast foliate metal locket with an aperture on the reverse.
The condition is excellent, with no issues whatsoever. The reverse of the case is lacking the surround and glazing to the aperture.
Note: Gillespie was active on the East Coast of North America, Baltimore, New York, and Philadelphia around the 1829-1838 time period...

This work is #231 in the Catalogue Raisonne, and dates from 1914. 22" by 29" etching alone, 35" by 42" in its period frame. Brangwyn is an important artist of the Arts and Crafts period.

This is a typical turn-of-the-century work by an amateur artist, though, a skilled amateur. Such watercolor paintings of roses were popular in the Victorian era and even into the early new century, artists continued to paint them in oil and watercolor.
