A print I first thought could be Pennsylvania Dutch imagery, but which now appears to be of some European origin, perhaps the Appenzell area of Switzerland, or elsewhere in Europe. A Google search reveals that the imagery is actually used on the cover of a Spanish reader book, so perhaps this is a Spanish origin. Measurements are 17" by 13 1/2" framed. Watercolor and ink drawing of the iconic world-class sight, the Parthenon atop the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. The work is signed in red in Greek at lower right and there is an inscription in Greek handwriting on the reverse. Measurements inside the deep blue mat are 10 1/2" by 7 3/4" (16 1/2" by 13" in simple undistinguished strip frame). The artist has captured with considerable skill a sight that will never be forgotten by anyone who has seen it.

In the last year of Maki’s life, Daniel Tretiak tells us, he was ill but continued to work. He did lithographs on shikishi board, which was a hard board covered in white rice paper. The back was yellow with a small design in gold and the whole board is gold-edged. Poem 8B is one of those works done in the 1999-2000 period.

Jean Emile Laboureur 1887-1943 French This is an original engraving by French artist Jean Emile Laboureur. This engraving was created and printed in 1920. One of 6 pencil signed impressions prior to publication in L'Architectures in an edition of 500 unsigned impressions. The image measures 11 5/8X8 1/8 inches. Hand signed in pencil lower left. Very nicely framed with a linen matting. This is one of his largest images done in his distinctly cubist style.

Sir Francis Seymour Haden was one of the most important British etchers of the 19th century, along with his brother in law James Whistler. In addition to being a highly regarded artist he was a successful surgeon, accomplished author and dedicated angler. He was a founder and the first president of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers, and was knighted in 1894.
