There is no other hint as to the identity of the artist. The paper has no watermarks. Measurements are 9 1/2" by 7" inside the mat, 14 7/8" by 11 1/4" in inexpensive modern frame behind non glare glass.

A well-painted work featuring an interior, perhaps a residence, perhaps a restaurant or other public space, a table with fruit in a bowl, a chair, and sofa filling the space. The oil on canvas, 17 1/2" by 21" (20 1/2" by 24" in old frame, likely the original), is signed somewhat indecipherably at lower left and dated there "Berlin 1909". The name appears at first glance to be "B. Geis(xxxx)" or "B. Geism(xxxx)"...

Old (pre 1920, possibly as early as late 19th century) watercolor of coastal rocks, 10" by 14", the frame in which found measuring 18 1/2" by 22", signed at lower right "T. G. Stowers". The work, found in New England, was mounted on an old board years ago. As it was loose in the frame, I have removed it for photography, and will ship it between boards. The old frame has some losses and is available at no extra cost. Research to date has not led to a listed artist name that would correspond...

From our European Collection, a masterpiece by German genre realism painter Carl Johann Spielter (1851-1922), entitled "Sad News," painted in 1901. More information to follow: Size: Framed Size 60 inches wide x 48 inches tall.

Ink on paper laid on board, 6 1/4" by 4 1/4" (the drawing itself), signed at lower right J.C.F.M. and signed again on reverse of the card "J.C.F. Murray '08" and titled "Volendam". I don't see a listing for this name, if I'm reading it correctly, but the drawing is obviously by a trained hand. Note the details of the wooden shoes on both figures, the traditional bonnet on the lady. Volendam is a small town north of Amsterdam and is known for its traditional dress and traditions...

Louis Auguste Mathieu Legrand 1863-1951 French This is an original etching and aquatint by French artist Louis Legrand. This image from his La Petite Classe series created in 1908 is titled Premiere Danseuse. This impression is the 4th state of 6. It is numbered as 1/100. The image measures 15 3/4X11 1/4 inches. Hand signed in pencil lower right, This etching is nicely framed with archival materials. Published by G. Pellet, Paris, red stamp lower right border.

A circa 1910 small oil on canvas landscape of a forest pond, signed at lower right "O. Sch". This 3 1/2" by 5 1/2" work (9 1/2" by 11 1/2" framed) came from a local family of German heritage. Their art, some of which I acquired, came with the family from the old country. This work has some condition issues, as the canvas over the decades has buckled, with sharp horizontal roughly parallel "ridges" now apparent, as well as craquelure...

Watercolor on paper painting, 9 1/2" by 17 1/2" inside the mat, 16" by 28" as framed, titled at lower right "AT DITTISHAM R. DART", signed at left by the nineteenth century English painter who is known apparently only by the signature "F. Walters". The artist painted in many parts of England. This scene is near Dartmouth in southwestern England not far from Plymouth. I would judge the age of the picture as circa 1870...

For the collector of early, 19th century California art, here is an east coast-style still life work, 10" by 14 1/2", unframed, signed at lower right "Bertie L Emery" and dated there 1892. The shallow dish holds oranges, grapes, a banana, and possibly slices of cake or bread, the dish resting on a white cloth, on an unseen tabletop. Interestingly for art history, Emery signs her first name as "Bertie"...

Watercolor on paper, 10 1/4" by 5 1/4" (15 1/2" by 10 1/2" framed), the subject apparently an ornate inner courtyard of a famous Portuguese palace and present day tourist magnet, the Sintra National Palace near Lisbon. I am guessing on this, having googled various possibilities, but comparing the window style, wonderful tile details and the castellated ledge at top, I think the odds are excellent that this be the Portuguese subject...

This is an antique painting of a rose in a tall glass vase, 13 1/2" by 5 3/8" framed, unsigned, circa 1900. Found in Rockland, Maine. The work, being of an unusual shape, might be that perfect addition to your narrow little space. There is wear on frame and the painting has even light soiling consistent with its age.

Alphonse Legros, French, 1837-1911, etching, "Les Bords De La Liane", image size: 5 7/8 x 7 3/4 inches, c. 1900, pencil signed lower right. This airy, impressionistc etching depicts a man fishing in a forested landscape. Provenance: Baldwin-Wallace College.

Paul Cesar Helleu 1859-1927 French This is a fine Belle Epoque portrait in drypoint by French artist Paul Cesar Helleu. The subject is: Madeleine Chéruit. This image measures 15 1/2X11 1/2 inches, hand signed in pencil by the artist in the lower right border. This drypoint is housed in a Foster Brothers period gilt frame.. Madeleine Chéruit was one of the most fashionable French dressmakers of her time. Her house of courture took inspiration from the Belle Epoque through to the Jazz Age...

Mortimer Menpes, English, 1860-1938, "Interior of St Maclou, Rouen". This etching by Mortimer Menpes measures 12 3/8 x 6 3/8 inches, pencil signed, c. 1902, edition of 50, looking towards the Gothic Baldachin. Menpes attended the School of Art in London in 1878 and started exhibiting at the Royal Academy in 1880. He became a major figure in the etching revival, producing more than seven hundred different etchings and drypoints, which he usually printed himself.

Oil on board Currier and Ives style winter landscape viewed from birds eye perspective, 18 1/2" by 24 1/2", 23" by 28 1/4" framed, unsigned, circa 1900, or possibly even earlier, painted in a primitive hand. The painting is charming and a definite folk art piece. Note the glowing windows of the inviting church on this winter day, there are two figures at left that look positively Dickensian, and the sled and figures show good detail.
