A very rare historically important documentary bamboo brush or pen pot drawn in ink signed 'Juli (July in Dutch) 1943' in the Tjihapit Internment Camp for Dutch Women and Children in the Japanese Occupied Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia).

The "cartoon" style drawings are curiously romanticised - I speculate, either to escape from the well documented brutal reality of camp conditions or it may have been produced, for propaganda purposes, under pressure from their concentration camp commanders...

Antique Victorian era lady's hand fan ("opera fan"), framed shadow box style, the fan itself 16 1/2" by 10 1/2" as fully opened, the printed images on the fan of feminine, delicate young dancing ladies, floral and leaf motifs bordering, the base worked mother of pearl with floral designs, as well as a most unusual VANITY MIRROR at far right, modern typeface in the box stating "Opera Fan With Mirror/Nannie Campbell Moore 1858 New Orleans"...

Interesting painted bark piece from the Pacific islands, probably Tonga, Fiji Samoa, or other island in Oceania, 18 3/4" by 26 1/2" (21 1/2" by 32" framed). The bark appears to have been laid on a thin board. This 20th century work was likely brought back to the US in the 1960's by a tourist, as decorative ethnographic art. Note the old San Francisco pre-zip code framer's label. This item would make for a fine addition to your tropical or "Hawaiiana" style interior.

An interesting selection of barbed wire of the Early West dating from 1872 to 1884, the board titled at top "THE WIRE THAT FENCED THE WEST"; samples are identified in handwriting by type. Some of the early barbed wire is quite scarce and rare; collectors know what is and what is not. All in all, excellent memorabilia for the aficionado of the Early West. The piece measures 12" by 12".

Circa early to mid 1960's image of actress Joanne Woodward (1930-), hand signed and inscribed "To Tom Best Wishes Joanne Woodward" in blue marker. The photo (7 1/2" by 9 1/2", 10 1/2" by 12" in simulated wood frame) is I believe a reprint of a sixties image of the actress in her prime, and signed at a later date. Woodward of course was married for fifty years to actor Paul Newman, with whom she appeared in ten films, and with whom she collaborated on many others...

A PAIR of watercolor and ink original drawings of elegant women in their elegant period finery, circa 1900, in matching oval late 20th century gold frames (14 1/2" by 11 1/2 as framed), one signed at lower right "F Siedle". These traditional works would make for fine additions to a lady's dressing area or bedroom.

Black and white photo of famed American gymnast and Olympic gold medalist MARY LOU RETTON (1968-), inscribed with black marker "To Alexis/Work hard/Love/Mary Lou Retton /USA 1984". Retton was a West Virginia-born teen who became the first female from outside the Eastern European countries to win the Olympic gold individual all-around competition in Los Angeles in the '84 games...

Carved and painted ceremonial mask from Africa, 14 1/2" by 5 1/4" by 3" deep, likely mid to late 20th century, with subtle coloring and the primitive look that inspired Picasso and other famous artists early in the century. Some wear on the nose from handling adds to the appeal of this decorative piece.

A circa early 1960's black and white photo of famous actress Leslie Caron (1931-), the actress appearing very young, with her famous sassy short haircut, inscribed at lower right in somewhat faded ink "Pour George Ghira/Souvenir de/Leslie Caron". The name of the recipient might be "Ghica", or even another variant---difficult to decipher. Caron of course is the actress known for "Gigi", "An American in Paris", and so forth...

A classic, circa 1980 or early 1980's photograph of famed American actress and singer BARBARA STREISAND (1942-). I am guessing on the age but she looks to be about 40 or so in the photo, and the permed hair is of that period----and then, there are those fishnets. The piece is signed boldly in blue marker at lower right "Best Wishes/Barbara Streisand". The piece measures 11" by 9" framed. Streisand of course is world-renowned as an entertainer...

A classic 9" by 7" black and white photo of George Burns holding a cigar, an impish grin on his face, inscribed in yellow (or ink that has faded to yellow) "Best, George Burns" at lower left. Burns (1896-1996) was an American actor, singer, and writer whose career in entertainment spanned many, many decades. With the passage of time, the photo has stuck to the glass at upper right and I am afraid to try to remove it. In a simple inexpensive frame.

Movie promotional poster for 1995's film "The American President" starring Michael Douglas and Annette Bening, directed by Rob Reiner, AUTOGRAPHED in gold marker by both Douglas and Reiner. The poster, 41" by 26 1/4", is currently shrink wrapped (not framed, but possibly "museum mounted" if a reverse gallery label for "Museum Mount" gallery be an indicator)...

Early circa 1915 painting of a race car and be-goggled driver, painted on paper or thin canvas, subsequently laid on board. An old framer's blue label suggests that the artwork spent some time in Rugby, England, but, the painting is laid on a modern day board, much newer than that outer backing would suggest...

An 8 pound chunk of glass, measuring 8" by 6 1/2" by 5". It is challenging to photograph, but what looks at first much like a generally black object actually has beautiful, emerald-green crystalline-appearing inclusions. It could stand to be polished up, as it has an abraded surface and edge wear in places from handling...

A poster from 1984 advertising Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's documentary "That's Dancing", which explored the history of dancing in the movies, SIGNED AND DEDICATED "To Merton Shapiro Best Wishes Gene Kelly" in white at lower right. Gene Kelly (1912-1996) was a major American dancer and choreographer, from the late 1930's through his death in 1996...

A copy of the 2011 autobiographical book "Happy Accidents" by comedienne Jane Lynch, dedicated by her to "Anthony" in marker and signed boldly on that page as well. This is an autobiography of the tall blonde actress and tv personality, addressing, among other topics, her life as a gay woman. The book is clean and fresh, just slight wear to top front edge of dust jacket. Measures 9 1/2" by 6 1/4" by 3/4".
