This is an actual antique page (not a reprint) from the Illustrated London News issue of April 1, 1843, the article describing in detail the efforts at the time to manufacture a flying machine powered by a light weight steam engine. The decorative and most interesting page features three detailed drawings of these primitive contraptions, all of which failed; Kitty Hawk was sixty years in the future...

Here is a rare and wonderful photo collage of scenes from the building of the Alaskan Highway (completed in 1943.) Original snapshots. The center photo highlights what appears to be the official ribbon cutting; sixteen photos surround it. Below is a cartoon of a bear taking a picture of a man. An albumen photograph circa 1880 of a man feeding a group of dogs gathered at his feet. In the lower left printed in the negative, Abdullah Freres. 515” and in the lower right, “Les Chiens des rues.” The image is 7 7/8 inches (20 cm) by 10 1/8 inches (25.7 cm). It is presently corner mounted in a large mat 17 inches (43 cm) by 14 inches (35.5 cm). The tones are rich and the contrast good.

Condition: In a raking light three lines that look like partial creases are visible...

An albumen photograph of a gargoyle located high on Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. Unknown photographer. Written in the negative in the lower right, “1003, Paris Notre Dame.” The gargoyle emerges from the waist up with a human torso, a dragons ridge on the back of the elongated neck, pointed ears, deep sunk eyes and a slit for a nostril in a rounded snout. 10 ½ x 8 inches (27 x 20 cm) mounted with transparent corners in a 16 x 20 inch (40.5 x 51 cm) mat...

A late 19th century souvenir: miniature bone binoculars depicting Catskill Mountain House, another hotel building, waterfalls and more (can be seen, but not photographed). These truly minimal magnifying lenses were invented in the 18th century by Lord Stanhope. Measures: "1/2 x 1/3 / 12 x 9 mm. Condition: some general wear consisting with time, but both lenses are working.

Offered is a lovely, double, gutta-percha photograph case holding two mid 19th century, Civil War Era tin types of two different women.

The double gutta-percha case measures 2.5 inches wide x 3 inches long x .75 inches deep when closed, and 5 inches wide when opened. The case appears to be in excellent condition!

The two cased tin types are each further framed within different press-molded, thin, ornate, brass frame and behind a little pane of glass...

Framed original vintage 1920's Lake View Brand label, for Pajaro Valley apples of California. The fruit was packed and shipped by Franich Brothers of Watsonville, Santa Cruz County (near Monterey). The label was printed by Olsen Lithography of San Francisco. Measures 13 1/2" by 15" in attractive gray weathered wood framing. Professionally framed (not examined out of frame). A very decorative item in excellent condition...
