Japanese 20th Century woodblock print portrait of a nun by IKEDA SHU. The print is numbered 4 of 100 and dated 1969. Fine color and impression. There are slight creases in the lower right and left corners. The paper measures 15 1/4" wide by 23" tall. The actual print measures 13" by 20 3/4" tall.
Early Showa period Japanese black silk woman's formal kimono with long sleeves decorated on the bottom of the front, back, and interior with a continuous ukiyo-e scene featuring commoners engaged in various activities in a village. Pilgrim's cotton hanten (hakue) with many stamps of sacred places in Shodo-shima in Kagawa prefecture. They are called "Shodo-shima Hachiju-hachi Kasho", 88 Sacred Places in Shodo Island. It is said Kobo-Taishi (Kukai) had ascetic practice and prayer at those places, who founded Shingon Mikkyo in late 8th century. In good condition except for light stain in the upper back sleeve. Rare set of 11 Dansk wood chargers, each of laminated exotic and figural wood, stamped with Dansk information on backs, each plate of at least 6 layers of wood.
They measure 12 1/8" directly across, and 13 1/4" at a diagonal angle.
Squarish shapes, rounded corners, center is round, large enough for a regular dinner plate to set inside.
They all have wonderful designs in the wood, some like birds eye maple, some like tiger maple, but they appear to be an exotic wood...
