Early Showa period Japanese black silk woman's formal kimono with long sleeves decorated on the bottom of the front, back, and interior with a continuous ukiyo-e scene featuring commoners engaged in various activities in a village. The material of vase is crackle glazed eathenware. It is more Satsuma type body but not small crackle as Satsuma. Nice Gold design with the panoramaic landscape painting over the two section of vase. Japanese cigarette case, damascened with silver and gold on steel, c 1930's. Decoration in Komai style of a temple gate, pagodas and Mt Fuji. The back with a Fukui mark under butterfly and 24K. In addition two marks resembling stylized birds’ wings on a sgraffito ground. Width "3 ¾ / 9,2 cm, height "3 ¼ / 8,2 cm. Condition: some wear to the black surface, otherwise fine (cf pics).

Japanese glass ojime in a form of tombodama bead representing Zen Buddhism Patriarch Daruma enveloped in blue robe with various flowers. Tombodama can be translated as “dragonfly ball” and the name is thought to come about because when the molten glass is applied to the core bead it resembles a dragonfly’s eye. Exceptionally well made piece - see his face with expression of severe concentration and finely done minute flowers of different species, in perfect condition...

Japanese Imari Porcelain Leaf Shape dish, late Meiji or early Showa, 1940, 6 1/4" x 6 1/2" wide, 3/4" high, very simple beautifully overglaze enamel Japanese Garden, Plum trees in early spring, Irish in summer, Chrysanthemum flowers in fall and Bamboo in winter, 4 seasons design above broad leaf on the bottom. The condition is good.

Cotton kimono called "yukata" with bold polka dot pattern. The dye technique is called "chusen" which is one kind of stenciled paste-resist-dye. Several 10s of layers of cotton fabric can be dyed by pouring the dye liquid. Good size and unusually fat sculpture carved out of chosen matsu (Korean pine wood), its face done in ittobori (one cut) style characteristic of Hida school with clever use of wood colors and structure to add to the charm of the piece. The Tokugawa clan reigned Japan as Shoguns from 1603 to 1867. Kutani Fuku (happiness)mark in iron red, a mark in use during the Tokugawa period. Height "1 2/3 / 4.2 cm. Condition: each with a short hairline from the rim.

1920s Japanese ceramic tokkuri - sake bottle - with conical body and narrow mouth. The piece was made at Shigaraki kilns - one of the six ancient kilns of Japan - and displays typical coarse body with large sand particles, freely applied gray glaze with some areas that fired brick red. Excellent piece in Japanese taste, beautiful spiral line on the bottom. Some compressed dust, overall in excellent condition. Height 5 3/8 inches.

An unusual small cylindrical Wakasa lacquer box. Dating Late Taisho, Early Showa Period, it measures 3.5" diameter, 1.25" high. Has some micro abrasions from surface wear on the bottom.

Bag made of hand spun and vegetable indigo dye cotton, with beautiful sashiko. The lining cloth is cotton which looks hand spun and has katazome (stencil-resist dye) stripes. The metal clasp works well, which is antique handmade with boat motif. Generally in good condition but has some indigo faded spots and wear in one of the corners in the bottom. Japanese silk kimono made with black chirimen silk, decorated with a resist design of fans, inside is lined with pink and cream color silk, very artistically mended in one subtle place to enhance to kimono (see detail), Taisho Period. Size: 66" long x 51 1/2" wide

A Japanese Arita porcelain plate or dish of circular form raised on a low foot. Decorated in underglaze cobalt blue with a Kingfisher perched amid grasses and lotus fronds, the base has a running Fuku mark. In excellent condition, it measures 6 inches diameter and 1" high.

A fine Japanese lid rest or futaoki as it is known in the tea ceremony. The lid rest is done in a technique known as karakane or bronze and has been hammered. The tachizuru or motif of standing cranes is often seen in various tea accessories representing the rise of auspiciousness. The lid rest comes with a tomobako with the name of the lid rest and the artist, Seishu. Age: Late Showa Period Size: diameter 2.1" height 2.1"
