Vintage chinese wood chair from the 1960s, the wood is carved to imitate bamboo. The back is carved with a design of bamboo leaves. It measures 38" tall, the seat measures 18" deep by 23" wide. 1 of a set of 4, available as a set or individually.

Genuine large Kalighat painting. A Chalchitra is a painted frieze that goes above a statue of Durga during puja. 24 different figures, lions, elephants and horses. Waterbased pigments on newspaper dated 1963. Diameter 170 cm maximum height of scroll 30cm. Currently in 2 pieces, surface scuffed and edges frayed as shown.

This textile from Afghanistan measures 24 x 27 cm and is dated to the mid 20th century. The highlights of this textile are the four mirrors ("shisha") which are made of mirror glass and used as an amulet to ward off the evil eye. The embroidery is silk thread on a plum cotton ground, in straight stitch, ladder stitch and Holbein stitch, all combined in an effective way to make the overall composition...

A fascinating portrait of the noted ukiyoe artist, Tsukioka Yoshitoshi. The work was painted by his disciple, Yamanaka Kodo (1869-1945) in 1934 and was originally part of the collection of Kobori Sakae, who collected various old books and donated his collection to the Waseda University. Above the portait are two poems done by two noted poets...

Straddling both sides of the Durand Line, the Mangal tribe are one of the more influential Pashtun tribes. This Mangal textile measures 24.6 x 28 cm and is in excellent condition. Curvilinear and geometric motifs are excecuted in straight stitch, Holbein stitch, and a tightly worked ladder stitch on a plum polyester ground. Estimated age: mid 20th century. The Mangal reside primarily in southeastern Paktia and adjacent Khost provinces of Afghanistan...

This Pashtun textile measures 35 x 35 cm and is embroidered in silk thread on a purple polyester ground. Two mirrors are sewn on as accents in each of the two 14-pointed stars. The embroidery technique is a tightly worked ladder stitch, typical of the embroidery of Katawaz. Condition: Excellent. Estimated age: mid 20th century.

A early 20th C. Chinese peking glass enamel snuff bottle with dragon motif, in excellent condition. Signed(1939) H:8cm $225

This mid-20th century octagonal shaped blue and white ceramic bowl is 4” high and 6 1/2” in diameter. It is decorated with floral and Daoist related designs both inside and outside. There is “Great Ming Dynasty, Hong Wu Period, month of July” honorable date on the bottom. It is in great condition.

Chinese carved jade snuff bottle, elegant flattened ovoid form, very pale green jade with small dark striations on one side. Brass spoon and fittings with carved coral colored Peking glass top, Republic period. Size: H: 2.75" x W: .75" x L: 2.25"

A Chinese qinhua or blue and white vase, beautifully painted, in the form often seen in archaic bronzes known as a gu, or a wine vessel. The vase is decorated with framed sections of views of landscapes and scholars near an embankment. The images are surrounded by cloud patterns with the character longevity done in the seal script. The vase has a Kangxi mark, but most likely republic period. Size: diameter 4.2 in. height 9 in.

Antique chinese rosewood table with carving on the sides. The sides are beautifully decorated with carvings of birds on blossoming plum branches. It measures 60" long, 36" deep, 15" tall. circa 1980

Rare Nuo mask of Xiao Gui, the "Little Ghost" with his pointed cap. Half mask designed to facilitate talking and singing. During the Nuo ritual, the whole village wants to capture him because of his malevolent power.
The holes in the eyebrows and around the mouth were used to fasten hair, now missing. 21 x 16 cms. Beg 20th C. Hunan. NM 60; RM 149; MC 58 (see bibliography)

Embroidered in vivid turquoise silk floss with a top stitch of golden silk floss, this woman's shawl ("phulkari") from Swat Valley measures 97 cm x 198 cm and is in excellent condition. The designs are stylized rosettes with densely embroidered borders and a medallion motif in the center. Black is the dominant color for the background of Swati embroideries, which share many motifs in common with the embroidery from Hazara district...
