Matsue Hariko Koma, paper mache horse from Matsue, Shimane Prefecture. H.3.25"(8.5cm) x L.3"(7.5cm) x W.1"(2.5cm). Ca. early 1970's, made by H. Kimura. Painted paper, straw tail. Matsue paper mache dates back to the Edo Period (1600-1868) and has a wonderful robust charm. The horse, in this rural area, is a symbol of good harvest. Matsue is known in the West as the long-time Japanese home of writer Lafcadio Hearn (1850-1904.)

Japanese early Showa period vintage child's silk kimono decorated with cranes flying among pines, both symbols of longevity. White silk lining. Measures about 37” long (excluding collar) and about 32 1/2” across (sleeve tip to sleeve tip). Circa 1940. Very good overall condition with only a few tiny spots on one shoulder. It appears to have never been worn and has been kept stored safely away in an air-tight trunk. From the Tucson, Arizona estate of a World War II veteran.

South Indian betel nut cutter with horse motif handle. Doesn't appear to have ever been used. Measures 7.5 inches long and dates pre 1950.

Japanese Ko Kutani ware ceramic bowl with classic enamel colors of green, yellow, purple and dark blue. The theme of the bowl is the 3 Friends of Winter or Shochikubai (plum blossom, bamboo, and pine tree) in colored enamel against a gray ground in the center. The recessed foot has 2 character mark Fuku, meaning "good fortune" or "happiness".

Chinese gourd shaped vase done in Peking glass with silver wire and fittings covering the vase. The silver fittings contain auspicious motifs such as the character longevity and goldfish. Kokeshi, wooden folk toy of NE Japan. Height: 8.5". This is an example of the "Yamagata-kei" tradition of Yamagata Prefecture. This kokeshi was made in the town of Toune by the artisan Yamaguchi Shuuichi, who was born on June 21, 1924 (Taisho 13.) It is not dated, but was most likely made during the 1970's or early 1980's. Vintage Japanese sunburst jasper obidome (sash ornament). Obidome is worn on an obi cord that holds the obi sash together, it is the only type of jewelry worn by Japanese women on formal occasions, and could serve as netsuke as well. These mall sized ghurras are used to churn small quantity of milk when in summer pasture with sheep, the carving shows 4 separated poles joined with a rope knot and surmounted by 4 milk pots supporting a ram , very nice black patina with important signs of used, at least from mid 20th, from Rukkum district . H 20 cm, wide 3 to 8 cm, thick 1 to 3 cm.

This is an attractive cloisonne vase from Ando. The enamel work and shading are finely done. The form and colors are rare. The vase stands 6 inches tall. There is a bit of hard to see crazing. This can be seen in the images and actually shows up more in the image than in person. It was made with silver rims and was probably made in the 1930's. This is a very nice display piece.

This vase is made in China Republic era , dated as 1920 and the noble ladies painted by Artist Li Wen Tai
