A thickly potted heavy dish profusely decorated in early 19th Century style with Famille Rose enamels. This item was made in China in the early 20th Century , possibly for the Malaysian market, during the Republic period (1912-1949). Condition - very good - there is wear to the gilding but no chips, cracks or restoration...

A fantastic maki-e vase by greatest Heian Zohiko Nishimura Hikobei VIII in great condition. It was made around 1950. An alloyed copper inner tray is also included.

Hikobei VIII(1886~1965) delved heavily into laquerware technology, creating a vast array of well-known works from the end of the Meiji period through the early Showa period.

His works were featured in world expositions as well as in national industrial fairs, winning prizes along the way...

A very impressive African tribal Senufo bird statue measuring 61.75 inches high with a 25" wingspan. The bird's wings are carved in relief with images of lizards, crocodiles, turtles and birds. Her left hand is holding a flower and is resting on the side of her body. Her right hand is held behind her head. She wears loose bracelets on both wrists and “lotus” shoes on her feet. 10 Japanese Lacquer covered bowls with beautiful sprays of Chrysanthemums in gold and red colors continued from the top cover to the side of the bowl, 3 1/2" high with top on, 4 3/4" diameter-rim, gold painted wavy flowing water design under the cover. The condition is good, no damages.

Japanese glass ojime in a form of tombodama bead with blue and red core, four pink petaled flowers with numerous white stamens, leaves and fine tiny silver foil inclusions. Tombodama can be translated as “dragonfly ball” and the name is thought to come about because when the molten glass is applied to the core bead it resembles a dragonfly’s eye. Superbly made piece - see the individual stamens and finely textured petals, in perfect condition. Height 0.77 inches.

Pair of large Chinese Republic period baluster form vases decorated with mirror image famille rose enamelled bird and flower motifs. Black inscription to the back includes Tianjin and the date in cycle years of 1932. There is a prominent luting line in the neck and a barely visible luting line at the mid-section. 17 1/8” and 17 1/4" high. Very good overall condition. They were previously drilled for lamps and the holes in the bottom have been professionally restored...
