Chinese low rectangular table, made of jumu (elm) wood with beautiful dramatic grain, inset with large rectangular piece of dark gray slate carved with design of scholar objects and archaic motifs, stone is protected by glass which is also inset into the table. A set of five yunomi by Suzuki Osamu enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Kao no Aru Yunomi. Each cup has a small face on one side, pale glaze covering all but that smiling fellow and the foote. Each cup is 3 inches (8 cm) tall and in fine condition...

A set of colorful Tokkuri in the shape of squared gourds by Living National Treasure Kato Hajime enclosed in the original signed wooden box titled Aka-e Hohyo Tokkuri (red glazed Tokkuri in squared gourd form). About the white bottom are fortuitous characters in green with a belt of blue, yellow and green in the center. They are 15.5 cm (6 inches) tall. There is slight rubbing of the red glaze typical of handling...

"Made in Japan" stamped on verso. This seal combination indicates printing between 1950-1963.
Excellent color and condition.

Vintage Japanese woodblock print by moku hanga style artist Fumio Fujita (1933-present). He graduated the Musashino College of Fine Arts in 1955 and began making woodblock prints in 1963. This is an abstract piece he created early in his career with a goldenrod yellow and grey background and bold, black criss-crossing lines with solid black circles, capturing motion and fluidity. It is set in a black and gold frame...

A set of six anonymous colored lacquer trays decorated with rock garden imagery in lead, mother of pearl and raised lacquer techniques. Each tray is roughly 48 x 27.5 cm (19 x 11 inches) and all are entirely unique, with different colors and designs and in overall excellent condition. Each comes wrapped in a faded blue cloth pouch.

Note: Not sealed by the artist. We've encountered a sealed late twentieth century example. Please see our last photo. This Zojoji design is very similar to a well-known 1930s Hasui print.

A chicken heart pendant carved using motifs inspired from Shang dynasty bronzes. The top of the pendant has a mythical bird carved and the remaining section contains geometric patterns and the face of an animal on the bottom. Age: 20th century. Size: height 2.5" width 0.3" length 2.6"

Mashiko ware black glaze pitcher. H. 10" x Body Dia. 6". Small chip on rim repaired in lacquer & synthetic gold. Purchased in 1965. Mashiko wares from Tochigi Prefecture have gained a worldwide reputation since potter Shoji Hamada settled there in 1923. It's been said that such handles as the one seen on this piece, and not typically Japanese, were introduced by Hamada and by Bernard Leach into Mashiko and other pottery Japanese pottery towns...

This model is a faithful representation of the American privateer ship built in New York at the beginning of the 19th century. The model is of exceptional quality. It may be that it was built from a kit from the 70s but the multitude of excellent details leads me to believe that it is a unique work created from scratch by a virtuoso model maker. Although we know of many models of the "Prince of Neuchatel", none equals this one...

Japanese shin hanga woodblock print by Toshi Yoshida (1911-1995) titled "Heirinji Temple Bell" dated in the left margin 1951. The print is pencil-signed in the lower right margin with the artist's red seal above. Early edition likely dating from the 1950s/60s. Paper size: 15 5/8" x 10 5/8" (image: 14 1/2" x 9 1/2"). Very good overall condition. There are some tiny printing smudges in the lower left margin...

A classic mid 20th century Dry-lacquer vase by Kawai Masazo enclosed in the original signed wooden box. Rankaku (crushed egg shell) on cream colored lacquer alternating with highly polished black. This work truly encapsulates the freedom for form which artists were seeking in the post war period. It is 45 cm long and in excellent condition...
