Japanese glass ojime in a form of tombodama bead with multicolored flowers and long scrolling vine. Tombodama can be translated as “dragonfly ball” and the name is thought to come about because when the molten glass is applied to the core bead it resembles a dragonfly’s eye. Beautifully made piece - see the white veining of the vine and air bubbles at the center of each flower, in perfect condition. Height 0.75 inches.

Women kokeshi makers, such as Ms. Abe, are in the minority in Japan in this craft that is usually handed down from father to son. Also, unique & interesting about Kijiyama style kokeshi is the depiction of the apron ("maekake" or "maedare") on the body.

Japanese 20th Century cylindrical vase by Living National Treasure KANAMORI EIICHI (1908-2001). KANAMORI was recognized for his metal inlay work and was considered to be the very best at this craft. The vase has a simple yet elegant design of a single tulip outlined in inlaid silver. The tulip is done in a rusty red color. The vase stands 9 7/8" tall by 3 5/16" wide at the top rim. Chinese famille rose porcelain double gourd vase with various flowers and butterflies painted on a white ground. The base border is painted with alternating bats, flowers and fruits all in iron red.
