French Nineteenth Century Miniature Timbali Mold Measuring 2.5”. QUILLEN ESTATE

One of those mid-century Murano glass shell designs inspired by the surrounding Adriatic Sea. The shell bowl is scalloped with a scroll twist that nicely modernizes the form. A shallow ceramic dish, 7 1/4" diameter, 1 1/4" height, signed on the bottom "Carlos Villalba H."; this is an image of a bat, created by the artist in the renowned Mata Ortiz art village in northern Mexico, state of Chihuahua, about 100 miles south of the US border. The design follows ancient Southwest Mimbres and Paquimean designs of the Casas Grandes border region of northern Mexico, which is rich in archaeological history...

Yuki-boshi (snow hat) or yuki-kabuto (snow helmet) made of palm tree fiber and vegetable indigo dye cotton inside. It has washi painted with Paulownia oil for waterproof, between outside and cotton indigo lining. It is from Shonai region in Yamagata prefecture in Tohoku district. It is said it was worn by "matagi", a hunter. The first half of the 20th century. In good condition with belts inside are left, which is rather rare. 40cm x 50cm

Set of 6 large 800 silver teaspoons from Roumania, c.1937. Sleek clean modernist design, they each measure 5 9/16" long and there is a slight gold wash inside the bowl. Each squared off bowl measures 1 3/4" long by 1 3/16" wide. They are each signed "R(in circle for Roumania)CROWN A(in soft triangle for .800 silver, 1937)" on the back with two other hallmarks in the bowl, that are hard to decipher. Very good condition but could use polishing...

Quirky Burmese reverse glass painting incorporating colored foil of Popa Medaw, (Google Popa Medaw as there is quite a good write up on her myth), 22cm x 32 cm. The lid is cut with the eight diagrams which will give the owner protection from misfortune and assure prosperity and happiness. Classical urn vase by Herend. The porcelain factory in Herend, Hungary, was founded in the 1820's and is still working. The urn is the raspberry red version of their Chinese Bouquet pattern, the mark indicates a date before 1980. No lid. Height "8¾/ 22,5 cm. Condition: fine.

Small and beautiful cased opaline and clear glass bulb vase, with speckles in reddish brown to puce over the light blue opaline. By Arthur Percy for Gullaskruf glassworks. A few pieces in this series entered the collections of the National Swedish Glass Museum in 1960, hence the dating of this item. Height "1 ¾ / 4.7 cm. Condition: fine.

1920s Japanese ceramic tokkuri - sake bottle - with conical body and narrow mouth. The piece was made at Shigaraki kilns - one of the six ancient kilns of Japan - and displays typical coarse body with large sand particles, freely applied gray glaze with some areas that fired brick red. Excellent piece in Japanese taste, beautiful spiral line on the bottom. Some compressed dust, overall in excellent condition. Height 5 3/8 inches.

Vase from the "Finlandia" series by Timo Sarpaneva for Iittala, Finland, 1965-69. Of tree trunk shape, the glass a very light green, watery shade.The irregular surface was created by the charred wooden moulds used for the Finlandia collection. The vase still retains its Iittala label and the polished base is signed Timo Sarpaneva 7362. Height "6/15 cm, diameter "4/ 10,2 cm. Condition: a few nicks to the sharply cut rim (cf. at 10 and 2 o’clock on pic.5)

Canadian Northwest Coast Haida Indian hand dance drum by Clarence A. Wells ( -1950) depicts a pair of hawks in the graphic Haida style. Title "Fish Hawk". and signature present along edge. The red, black, and white coloring of the eagles makes a dramatic contrast with the natural background color of the drum surface.

Beautifully carved butter churner guide ("Ghurra' or "neti"), decorated with a relief rope and chevron design. Wood, with fine dark-brown patina. Himalayan Region. Length: 11 1/4" (23,5 cm). The piece is nicely mounted on a custom wood stand. Obvious signs of use and age, otherwise very good condition. NOTE: the "ghurra" was collected in situ in the early 1970s, during my 20 years stay in Asia.
