Old Counsellor cigar box, altered by hand, painted black, fitted with red felt interior compartments to hold jewelry, the lid carved and painted in a Deco design. The box measures 8 3/4" by 6 1/4" by 2 3/4". On the bottom one can see under the paint the original incised declarations of authenticity of the cigars, including notary public seal from Ulster County, New York, and other information that is difficult to decipher...

A Pashtun Mangal child's shirt front, circa early or mid 20th century. Silk thread on cotton in a dense satin stitch is worked in horizontal rows, forming geometric patterns of lozenges and chevrons in mostly peach and black thread which cover the entire embroidered surface. Kon, dark blue, Indigo-dyed cotton haori woven in botan kasuri (peony ikat) technique. Cotton liner features pattern of a crane’s head within hexagons, representing tortoise shells; both crane and tortoise symbolizing long life. A haori is a jacket worn over the kimono when going out. Aldo Londi for Bitossi: a circular stoneware bowl, covered all over with Lava glaze, full of “volcanic” effects in intense shades of yellowish-green and orange. This pattern is also seen in vases, boxes etc. from Bitossi. Aldo Londi was the artistic leader of this renown Italian ceramic company. Marked 3030/564 (?) and Italy. Diameter "8 ½ / 21.5 cm, height "1 ¾ / 4.5 cm. Condition: fine.

The piece as framed measures 16" by 14". The needlework is in exceptional fresh condition. I am uncertain as to the age of it; I think, younger than the frame.
