This a Kioto School Netsuke, carved in the 19h century, that depicts a standing Boy, who is carrying a large bag over his shoulder, and is happily eating a piece of Cake. Signed Shoji, on the edge of the boy's robe, in the back. Wonderful mellow patina. Charming and interesting, but seldom seen depiction of Daily life in Japan.
Netsuke measures 0.98 inches (2.5cm) wide, and, 2.05 inches (5.2cm) tall. It has some age hairlines, common to netsuke this old, but, it is solid, and otherwise, in excellent condition.
