A underglaze blue hand painted blue and white export plate depicting three sprigs of flowers enclosed in a lobed border with fleur- de-lis and on the outer border a loosely painted fence. The outer edge is painted brown. Given the vague Western references in the decoration the plate is probably after 1750. 8 7/8th inches (22.5 cm) diameter.

Condition: No chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs. Very minor stacking wear. Minor firing flaws.

There is an elaborate border including scholar’s roles on the side of the well between the rim and the center and at the outside of the rim leaf and flower border. A well decorated Chinese Imari export plate with underglaze blue and overglaze red, orange and gold. The scene of flowering plants and a Chinese fence covers the face of the plate, from the rim on one side, across the center and onto the opposite rim. There is a single blue line at the outer border and a brown edge. The back is decorated with blue and red trailing flowers and has an unglazed foot. Probably the first quarter of the 18th century. 8 5/8 inch (22 cm) diameter.

A complexly decorated Chinese export plate in underglaze blue with overglaze red, orange and gilding depicting scrolling plants, two panels with a house under a flowering tree and an octagonal symbol in the center. Brown painted rim. There are trailing blue and red plants on the back and the foot is unglazed. On the border the panels of flowering branches alternate with stylized trellises. The edge is brown. The back is plain with an unglazed foot rim. A Chinese porcelain early 18th century large handleless cup with hand painted underglaze cobalt blue decoration. On the inside a saw tooth band is between faint blue lines located near the ruffled rim and a scene of an insect above a flower and grasses in the bottom. On the outside are stylized flowers in jars, in lower arches and rising above the arches between the jars. The foot is high. Height 2 inches (5 cm) and diameter 3 3/8 inches (8.5 cm).

A Chinese hand painted blue and white porcelain deep dish with a wide rim and a brown outside edge. The underglaze blue decoration on the inside is flowers and a table with a vase of flowers. On the outside are a couple of loosely painted floral designs. Height 1 ½ inches (4 cm) and 6 3/8 inches (16 cm) diameter.

Condition: No cracks, hairlines or repairs. One small chip on the rim. There are a few firing flaws and some use scratches in the bottom of the bowl.

The thin shaped porcelain dish with a fluted rim that extends to a lobed edge is well decorated in underglaze blue with four large panels of flowers separated by four small panels of flowers surrounding the center decorated with a flowering plant and a flying insect. On the back are two flowers with trailing leaves and in the center the four character Kangxi mark enclosed in a double circle, all in underglaze blue. Diameter 5 3/8 inches (13.5 cm) and height 1 inch (2.5 cm).

Kyoto Satsuma figure of an elaborately dressed elderly man seated on a rush mat with two small cases beside him. The man is nearly bald, missing front teeth and shows whisker stubble on his chin. On the other hand his vest is elaborately decorated with gilt flowers, and his pantaloons and leggings are stripped with gilding. Late 19th century. 5 inches (12.5 cm) tall, 5 ½ inches (14 cm) long and 4 inches (10 cm) wide.

Large folk art hooked cotton rug of a maroon horse outlined in black and with black hooves and tail trotting to the left against a tan ground with maroon corners and blue bands to enclose the horse. Barnard/1933.” The young man with brown hair and eyes wearing an open necked white shirt leans into the picture plane with a sense of youthful eagerness. A pastel of the river Seine in Paris with the top of a building in the distance over leafy trees and a barge passing through the arch of a bridge by the American born Louis Orr who spent much of his life in Paris. This in a nice example of his work in a new mat and frame. Sight size of pastel 12 by 16 inches (30 by 40 cm) frame size 19 3/8 by 23 3/8 inches (49 by 59 cm).

Condition: Excellent with acid free mat and backing.

The Boydell Gallery of paintings from Shakespeare must have been an amazing site in fashionable London in the early 19th century. The publisher, John Boydell, commissioned some of the leading artists of the day to paint scenes from Shakespeare and to display the paintings at the publishers Shakespeare Gallery in Pall Mall.
