A nice jade "bi" disk carved in the Han Dynasty style with dots and "c" scrolls. Color is a transparent light pale celadon. It shows up darker in the photos. Age:Late Ming. Size: Diameter.5.3cm. Condition. Some minor chips on the rim.

A full necklace of a mixture of cylinder, annular, tubular and truncated ellipsoid carnelian beads. There are also two "bullet" beads. This is a complete necklace - not random pieces put together. A rare crystal ring from the Pyu dynasty carved with a fish,the sea and a crescent moon. The fish is a early Buddhist symbol for incarnation carried over from Hinduism. In Hinduism, one of their symbols is a fish. One appeared as an avatar (incarnation or physical bodily manifestation) of Vishnu to save mankind from the Great Flood. The Fish (matsya) were originally symbolic of the rivers Ganges and Yamuna, but came to represent good fortune in general, for Hindus, Jain and Buddhists...

A set of seven very rare Pyu silver coins. Dated 100 to 900 AD. Some coins have holes in them, probably used for jewerly. Sizes: Large coin 2.4cm Smallest 1.4cm. Condition Fine. Natural patina.

A sansai-glazed Tang Dynasty pottery tripod censer. Most sansai-glazed pottery include green and amber glazes - this vessel is glazed in blue and amber glazes. Blue sansai-glazed pottery is very rare since the blue color was made from cobalt imported from the Middle East and was very expensive at the time. Blue cobalt glazed sancai pieces go for much higher prices because of the preciousness of the ingredient and how scarcely it was used...

A very rare gilt figure of Buddha with hands in the earth-touching gesture. The facial features are characteristic of Burmese Buddhas of the time with very large ears and nose.

A very rare and beautifully carved blackwood table. The carvings represent good luck symbols with key fret designs,lingzhi fungus, floral, tendril, and coins. The front and the back are a mirror images of each other, and the two sides also have mirror image carvings on both ends. The legs are straight and not curved as seen in the wide angle photo. A rare unusual bronze mirror with two mythical animals that might be tigers. Age: Western Jin Dynasty - 265 - 316 AD. Size: Diameter - 9cm. Condition: No repairs. Natural aging with nice patina.

A rare carved jade of an old man with a beard. Half of the jade on top is translucent and the bottom bottom half opaque. It is from the Hunan culture which was absorbed by the Han as their control spread over the whole of China. Size: H. 3.8cm. W. 1.3cm. See last three photos.

A very rare Chinese Nanmu scholar's table chest. Nanmu wood has been used in China since the Han dynasty and is very prized by collectors as it is difficult to find. I feel that it is rarer than huanghuali. I have only come across one Nanmu scholar's chest in all the years that I have been collecting. Size: L.34cm. W.17cm. H.6cm. Age: Mid Qing or earlier. A very rare and unusual root brush pot that is highly prized by the Qing Scholars. This is a very special type of root know in Chinese as "JinJinan" The pot has all the natural openings from the root. Age: Qing, early 18 century. Size: H. 29.3 cm. Diameter at the base. 19cm. Condition: No repairs to the root. An old repair on one leg of the base. One leg has been replaced. See photos.

A magnificent red and white Beijing glass vase . Basic vase is white glass with an overlay of red glass that has ben carved to expose the white vase. Scenes of scholars, merchants, painter, bridge, birds and mountain scenes. Qianlong mark at the bottom. Age: Pre 1920. Size: H.27,6cm.

A rare wooden Buddha in a seated position on a lotus pedestal. The face is serenely contemplative and the robe is carved to show the gathered folds. Wooden Buddhas from this period are very difficult to find. This Buddha has a natural, calming presence.

Period: Yuan/Ming or earlier

Size: Height = 31 cm., Width at base = 18 cm.

Condition: The wood has shrinkage and cracks from age. The right ear and fingers of the left hand are missing...

A unique piece of zitan wood used as a sample for the scholar's woodworker. This piece is unusual as it shows a very light color of the zitan wood which is probably close to the bark area. There are two holes drilled in the piece for attaching a string for hanging. This piece weighs 550 grams. This is a great item for the zitan collector. Size: L.17.3cm. W.10.3cm. H.2.4cm. An extremely rare pair of original 18th century elm wood lacquered folding chairs. All the parts are original including the original lacquer. Only replacements were the hardware in the folding joints as the originals had rusted out. The back panel has an open- work floral design with a cloud design on the upper and lower panels.
