Antique Japanese hanging garden lantern in the form of a house with tall roof. Overall diamond shape with four sides and pierced lattice-work doors and windows. One side has a hinged door which opens outward and is latched with a little bronze bird.

Japanese Antique small and charming censer. The lid is pierced for incense smoke and the finial handle is in the form of a mouse. The round-form body of the censer has three small handles and is decorated with raised medallion reserves each with a different animal: rabbit, ox and tiger.

Antique Japanese pair of hanging lotus candle holders, each made of bronze and attached in two sections. The upper section is a large inverted lotus leaf with smaller leaves and lotus buds around it's base. From out of the large lotus leaf is a hook. The lower section attaches to the hook with a ring. The candle itself would sit on the small lotus flower platform with smaller leaves and flowers.

Antique Japanese iron tomyodai Shinto votive candle holder in the form of a hoju (precious jewel). 12 circular rings for candles and one at the very top of the jewel's point. Attached to a stand with four feet and a rectangular tray to catch the wax from melting candles. From a Buddhist temple or Shinto shrine.

An antique Japanese bronze Buddhist temple bell called Bonsho with a carrying handle depicting diverging dragon heads called Ryuzu. The upper protrusions called Chi or Nyu improves the resonance of the sound when struck. Two opposing striking panels called Tsuki-za is the point on the bell where the best and longest sound is achieved. A bell of this size was hung in a small temple to summon the monks to prayer...

Antique Japanese small kodansu (jewelry box) made of silver and incised with fans decorated with waves, birds and flowers. Two hinged doors open to reveal 3 small drawers, lacquered black and lined with green velvet.

Antique Japanese pair of koro (censers) made of bronze. The round, facetted body of each koro stands on 3 small legs in the shape of leaves. The lids are similar to fans with the openings between the ribs made in an open fashion to allow for the escape of incense smoke. Each with a deep black patination.

An antique Japanese 2 part Usubata in bronze featuring a Minogame (age old turtle) base. Mounted to the shell is a flanged cloud rendering with four terminating columns that undulates to a removable wide rim water receptacle. Artist signed at the base of the receptacle. Beautiful craftsmanship including the fine stimple work to the underside of the turtle.

In Japan, the turtle is a good luck animal symbolizing 10,000 years of long life...

Antique Japanese okimono depicting a pair of cranes on a rock. Waves wash around the rock near an ancient turtle. Made of bronze and silver with polychrome details. This sculpture is an elegant representation of the traditional longevity phrase: “cranes live for one thousand years, and turtles for ten thousand.” On the back of the rock is a large, 4-character cartouche the first part of which reads: 般若 Hannya. The next 2 characters are more difficult to read...

Antique Japanese bronze shokudai (candle stick for a Buddhist shrine) in the form of a crane standing on a turtle's back. In it's beak, the crane holds a lotus stem with blossoms, buds and unfurling leaves. The different aspects of a lotus symbolize the stages of the Buddha's life. The crane and turtle together symbolize longevity as well as the opposites of Heaven and Earth. This shokudai has especially intricate details...

Antique Japanese group of 3 bronze vases. The smallest is gourd shaped, the medium vase has an hourglass shape and the tallest vase has a long neck, a round base and a reddish finish.

Antique Japanese Buddhist candle holder with long handle. Made of bronze and incised all over with an octopus vine motif. The chalice shaped stand sits on a chrysanthemum shaped foot and has a candle pricket that is hinged so it closes when not in use. A long handle is attached to one side so it can be carried.

Age: Edo Period (1603-1867)

High level Antique Japanese bronze vase with a water dragon coiled revealing itself around foliated neck. The vase has a squat body and elongated, fluted neck with open foliated mouth, revealing excellent original condition and beautiful patina. Dramatic lifelike waves crash on the vases shoulders just below the dragon, spraying outward. Highly detailed and signed.

An exceptional fine antique Japanese silver vase with a dragon coiled around it's tall neck. The round body of the vase has a large dragon and churning waves in high relief.
