Staffordshire Figure of Cobbler Woman, one of a pair. This one dates to mid 19th C. and is particularly desirable because it is painted in the round. Good condition with crazing, no discernible damage. Dimension: 6 1/2" h

Three plates with orange ground lip, transfer border on the edge of the well and the center hand painted with different complex bouquets of wild flowers. All have the Royal Worcester mark on the bottom with the date of 1877 below. Also, the number 9522/A (?) is written in overglaze enamel. The plates are 9 inches (23 cm) diameter.

Condition: no chips, cracks, hairlines or repairs. Some gilding wear on the edges and minor scratches.

English Blue Transferware deep Plate, 19th century, 8 7/8" diameter, 1 1/4" high, fluted edge with Castle scenery and figures attending cows, impressed mark "2" on the bottom, possibly "Spode" pottery, the edges are worn and stained little, the condition is good.

A hand painted Ashworth Imari ironstone dinner plate from 1899. This wonderfully decorative Victorian 10-1/2" dinner plate is in the Imari palette with a cobalt and gold border and a central floral panel with Oriental cameos around the edge. We haven't found a name for this pattern however B2050 is the same except with a black ground...

A mulberry transfer English Staffordshire plate in the Athens pattern by William Adams & Sons made c. 1850. The inking is crisp and sharp, even on the backside as evidenced by the clear registry mark. The shape has 14 edges. Adams was one of the longest lived potters in England, operating as late as the 1990s.

Very good Staffordshire figural group portraying a young man and woman in a garden. He holds a floral wreath while she holds a potted rosebush. The decorative painting is very nice, especially the facial details.

English Imari pattern soft Ironstone two(2) handle Pastry tray, or serving tray, 19th century, 10 1/2" x 9" wide with two(2) handles in fluted rim, 1 1/4" high, Peony flowering branches decorated with underglaze blue, overglaze red and gold. This pastry tray feels very smooth and soft ivory white color and no damages except some gilding decorations are worn on the edges.

Very rare, circa 1888, English tapestry ware biscuit jar with hand painted scenes of a pair of quail and a pair of herons in their appropriate settings. The surface is very clean and feels smooth to the touch. Marked on bottom is the Taylor,Tunnicliffe & Co. of Hanley with the rare Kings Crown logo which was registered in 1886. A signed Christopher Dresser Linthorpe pottery plate circa 1880. This superb and rare Linthorpe high relief 8" English pottery plate features a naturalistic branch with leaves with a rustic white/yellow glaze on the front and no glazing on the back. It is stamped LINTHORPE Ch. Dresser HT on the back; Dresser was the designer for this factory c1879-89 and Henry Tooth was the manager prior to 1883, making the date of manufacture 1879-83...

A delightful and very rare Staffordshire ironstone puzzle jug by Elsmore & Forster. The sides are decorated with colorful scenes of a cockfight below the lip, while the sides feature large images of the famed circus clown “Cashmore”. The foot, rim and handle are highlighted with red stripes. The interior has a hidden siphon system that causes the contents to spill when the jug is tipped, unless the pourer covers the small air hole on the inside of the handle...

Rich Green majolica plate by Wardle of England with leaf and grape pattern. Note the intentional crackling of the glaze in the large leaf. In excellent antique condition with some expected wear to the higher parts of the design and the edges. There is an old chip on the back (see last photo). The glaze is good throughout, any weird variations you might think you see are cause by my lighting. Plate measures 9 inches across. Dates 1880.

Eight dinner plates transfer printed in blue with the Wild Rose border and Nuneham Courtenay pattern, early to mid-19th century. The park at Nuneham House near the Thames was designed by Capability Brown. Many early Victorian potteries produced this pattern and the backstamps reveal a palette of potteries: four plates by Samuel Moore & Co in Tyne & Wear, impressed flowerhead mark for Swansea in Wales, impressed and underglaze blue mark of Bell Cook & Co, Phoenix pottery in Newcastle...

A wonderful Victorian ironstone footed fruit compote decorated in an underglaze blue floral pattern. Distinctly Asian in flavor, the pattern depicts prunus blossoms and peonies surrounded by rocky outcroppings, foliage and hovering butterflies. The edges are finished in a diaper border. Either end has a leafy handle, heavily accented with gilding similar in style to that found on Old Paris porcelains. The overall shape and use of gilding suggests an early date. Measuring 2.75 inches high x 2.75 inches in diameter, this very sweet, child's, Copper Lustre mug or cup was produced in 19th century England.

Beautiful "Copper Lustre" paint accents a central yellow band with copper colored, feather detailing. Interior rim is painted in a pink lustre band.

Condition is quite fine with no damage or repair...

A group of pink lusterware made by Allerton, Staffordshire: slop bowl, two cups and three saucer bowls, all decorated with the Dahlia flowers typical of Charles Allerton & Sons, c 1860-70. Pattern numbers (?) 22, 707 and 701. Diameter of slop bowl "5½ / 14 cm, height of cups "2 ½ / 6.5 cm, diameter of saucers c. "5½ / 14 cm. Condition: wear to part of the decoration, nick to the foot rim of the slop bowl, one saucer with a hairline (cf. pics).

A rare comical stoneware lidded jar in the shape of a blowfish by Mark V. Marshall for Doulton Lambeth, circa 1885. This globular vessel stands on three fin feet and the lid has a fin shaped handle. The entire piece is glazed in rich green, white and brown tones. The underside bears an impressed "Doulton Lambeth" mark, signature, and other incised factory marks. In excellent condition, it measures 6.5 inches high and 5.25" diameter.

A shaped rectangular dark blue ground dish with extensive gilding. Birds on the four edges and moths in the corners are painted in conjunction with the gilding. Though unmarked it is typical of Mason’s of the period around 1825. 9 ½ inches (24 cm) length, 8 inches (20 cm), 13/4 inches (4.5 cm) tall.

Excellent Staffordshire children's cup illustrating the letter "H". The blue transfer decoration shows the letter amidst scenery filled with "H" words--horse, house, hound and horn. The cup has very nice color and a thick bluish glaze typical of Staffordshire pottery.

Origin: England, circa 1850. Condition: very good, a tiny (1/8") flake at the top rim. Size: app. 3" diam., 3-1/8" high.

A pair of Staffordhire copper lustre creamers or milk jugs / pitchers. Early Victorian Rococo revival shape and pretty decoration of vines against an orange background. Height: "4 3/4/12 cm. Condition: one with some crackling to the glaze (cf. pics).

English Transferware Pink deep Plate, Ca. 1850, 8 1/4" diameter, 1" high, marked "Woodland" in the double oveal shape circle, mpressed mark beside, rest of the markings are unable to identify, three(3) cows in front of tall trees with Grape Vine Rim design, it is a beautiful pleasant scenerey. Crazing on the glaze, the condition is good.

A very nice pair of Staffordshire spaniels highlighted with gilt decoration. Each dog wears a collar with a padlock and a chain. The muzzles are decorated with pink and black overglaze enamel, and the eyes are set with glass eyes. Both have the whimsical "Joan Crawford" eyebrows...

Two(2) Victorian English Staffordshire Charles Meigh "Indian Stone China" Soup Plates, 10 1/2" diameter with fluted rim, 2" high, impressed mark on the bottom, the condition is good, no damages.

A lovely Staffordshire pottery inkwell and quill holder in the form of a swan. The wings are painted vivid shades of pink with black and gilt accents. The bird rests on a colorful "confetti" nest. The hole in the swan's back served as the inkwell, while the two holes in the front were to hold quills. This swan is a particularly colorful example.

Rare large ironstone platter in the Imari taste with a cobalt blue border by G.L. Ashworth, the successor to Mason’s. The platter’s rim is unusually decorated with reserves showing Japanese ladies with parasols and floral elements surrounded by gilding. The central design shows an Asian-themed still life including peonies, lotus blossoms, pagodas, etc. The back is printed with Ashworth’s mark, is impressed “Real Ironstone China”, and has a decorator’s mark.

An Early Victorian Copper Lustre Pitcher, with the "Dancing Ladies" design; circa 1850. Dimensions 7" high x 4.25" at base. Some age, but in very good condition.

This is a Victorian Staffordshire-style spill vase, of biscuit porcelain shaded to pale green, spill vases were placed on a fireplace mantle to hold spills---the small wood or paper splinters used to obtain light from a fire; modeled as 3 knarled trees joined by leafy branches; surface cracks; 6" high.

English Pink transfer ware scalloped edge Dinner Plate, 19th century, 10 1/2" diameter, woman and man talking and pointing to the two(2) cows are grazing in front of Monastery gate, marked "Monastery" and "10" in red on the bottom. Some glazed area are stained and hairline 1" long from the rim.

A very hard to find purple transferware jar with lid featuring a vignette of a child with mother among classical ruins. The attached handles are decorated and scroll outward; the rim is decorated with fancy borders as is the foot. Underside is impressed with P. A pair of small Doulton Lambeth Silicon jars, the inside salt glazed as to be used for pickles relish or the like, the outside meticulously worked with applied and incised stylized leaves and pearl borders in beige and blue. Impressed mark Doulton Silicon Lambeth and year mark 1883. Height "2¼/ 6 cm, diameter "3½/ 8,5 cm. Condition: fine.

Although Adderley is often credited by sellers as the maker of all Blue Chelsea series of table wares, the truth is that it was produced by many makers. This coffee pot is unmarked but clearly a fine Staffordshire example.

Francis Wheatley ( 1741-1801) first earned his fame as a portrait painter for the aristocracy, but when he fell out of favor, his landmark series of paintings of the Cries of London depicting the working poor hawking their wares on the streets of London ensured long lasting fame. Prints of his paintings were popular throughout the 19th century and early 20th. This Prattware lid was such an example produced by polychrome transfer processes.
