A very nice mauchline ware wooden hinged box decorated with seven Washington, DC scenes. American scenes are more difficult to find than English or Scottish scenes, and to find seven different images of the Washington DC area is most uncommon. The box retains its original blue silk lining. With the exception of Mount Vernon, all the buildings had been completed only 5-15 years before this piece was produced.

A set of tiles with a letter of the alphabet on each tile; one side with the small letter and the other side with it in capitals. Interestingly the small “s” is in the form of a small “f”, known as a “long s.” Its use was archaic by the early 19th century and since these types of tiles are thought to be used to teach spelling it seems likely that they would date from no later than the early 19th century...

Red Lacquered Papier Mache Pencil Box, beautifully painted of children at play in gold and other soft colors near the bridge, 1 1/4" high, 8 5/8" x 3 3/4" wide. This pencil box has divided interior and hinged top with small round brass button in front to operate the openings and closing when you push the brass button. The lacquer painting on top of the lid is in good condition. There are some red lacquer losses under the top and inside.

A very early pair of child's shoes hand sewn and pegged and nailed. The shoes are fragile but one is much better than the other. They are early enough that the soles are identical with no difference in right and left shoe. They are 6" long and 3 1/2" tall. circa 1830. These early shoes are hard to find and look wonderful with a textile collection.

Victorian Scottish Mauchlineware Pencil Box Rare mauchline ware pencil box featuring transfers of two different scenes. The lid is decorated with a scene entitled “London Bridge & Cannon St. Station” and the body scene is entitled “Lambeth Palace”. Both transfers are very crisp and detailed. English scenes are much less common than images of Scotland. This piece is also larger than most pieces of mauchlineware.

An attractive wooden jewelry box, with finely carved inlays of bone and Mother of Pearl, probably Levantine, 19th. century AD.

With a large carved central rose-bud projecting and interiour red velvet. no key present but unlocked.

Condition: Nice Very fine. basically Intact with tiny losses to inlay.

An English Walnut and Brass Double Arm Class 1 Scale. Dimensions; 15.5" h x 15" with two ovoid baskets 6" x 5". Late 19th century. Excellent condition.

A Victorian Brass Handled Painted and Inlaid Lacquer Basket with a Scalloped Border. Dimensions; 8" diameter x 1.5" high. Circa 1850 and in excellent condition.

A very nice Victorian tartanware paper knife in the form of a pocket knife. The cover is in the McBeth tartan. The folding blade is carved from bone or ivory (the blade is too thin to be able to tell with certainty). Tartanware became popular in the mid-19th century because of Queen Victoria's fascination with Scotland. The colorful plaids were transformed into an enormous array of objects for daily use.

A very nice folding corner shelf of lacquered papier-mache with metallic decoration of Chinese court scenes. One wall shows ladies riding in a rickshaw while the other shows ladies strolling in a court garden with their guardian. The scalloped edge of the shelf is decorated with a gilt edge.

Origin: England, ca. 1840. Condition: excellent, no cracks, bright coloring. Size: 5” wide; 7-3/8” tall.

This is a whimsical 19th Century ivory cane or parasol handle; intricately carved with a sandpiper and a snake devouring a plump frog; also with a fine banded saw-tooth rim. Measurement: length: 5 1/4 inches. Condition: age appropriate wear to some of the sharpness of the saw tooth rim- no chips or cracks.

Folk Art duck decoy, hand carved from wood with black round stopper for eye. The bird is painted black with white highlights and grey bill. Tail fins are carved in wood.
CONDITION: signs of wear on the base, missing leather strap for pulling the decoy in the water.

A tasteful Edwardian rectangular serving tray, solid oak with brass enforced rounded corners, authentic warm patina. In excellent condition, it measures 15.5 inches long by 9.75" wide. Dates circa 1900.

A Fine Early Victorian Diminutive Black Lacquer Tazza with Bird and Floral Decorations. Dimensions; 8" in diameter and 1.5" high. Circa 1850 and in very good condition.

An English Oak Inkstand from the Edwardian era, circa 1910. It is 9" x 6", with a decorated top to the inkwell. There is a slight crack in the glass (visible in the photo), but otherwise in fine condition.

English Victorian Lacquered Papier Mache Game Box with hinged top, Ca. late 1800's, 10" wide, 7" deep, 1 1/4" high, top and 4 sides are decorated with very colorful lacquer design, white metal lock plate is embossed and marked with "W/VR", and red velvet with gold tooled border and old paper lined interior, deep tooled mark with big Crown on the bottom shows "... & Bett Ridge", "Makers to the Queen" Some separations between joint and lacquer losses on the surface through out.

A pretty Victorian maple swing-handle sewing basket, the interior lined with colorful pleated silk plaid. The bottom, upper frame and handles are constructed of maple, and the spindles forming the sides of the basket are ebonized.

Origin: America, ca. 1900. Condition: excellent, except for a narrow age split in the wood at one end of the upper frame. Size: 8-1/8" x 5-3/4" x 9" high.
