A very attractive large Oak figure of a Catholic Benedictine monk, European, probably Germany or Holland, c. later 16th. century.

The figure depicts a younger monk with the typical dress and tonsure hair. He is standing on a octagonal plint. Remnants of the original colours especially to the head.

Height: c. 48 cm. and quite massive and heavy.

Condition: Nice Ver fine for the size and high age, loss to hands, and age cracks and very sound wood.

This is a bronze miniature figure of Sri-Lakshmi, a Hindu goddess from 16th-18th century India. The figure stands in a sensual tribhanga pose on a round base over a square plinth. Her right arm is extended, and her left arm is raised with a lotus blossom.

She wears a long dhoti with incised foliate patterns and an elaborate pendant belt...

Lost wax cast bronze Christ. Probably original wooden cross. The fine quality sculpture is certainly the work of a good artist. It would be interesting and profitable to find out who it is. I don't know much about European art but the sculptor who thought of this bead of skin above the nail hole of the feet was not a simple craftsman. Beautiful cast , neat scraper finish. The bellied receptacle with zoomorphic heads to the spouts and female heads with long hair to the lugs supporting the swing handle. Lovely gothic style bronze vessel with quite much gilt present, but made in the early baroque period.

A very nice early German School carved and painted figure of Madonna, Germany, ca. 1500 AD.

She is standing crossing her arms in long garments and a robe with hood. Finely painted in colours.

Size: 24,5 cm. tall.

Condition: Choice for type! Basically intact with limited wormbites and some flaking of the paint, still nice and sound.

This particular piece is a very unique, stone prayer tablet. It is difficult to date but stylistically could be as early as the Five Dynasties period (907-960 AD). These tablets were often found in conjunction with the ceramic offering vessels from Yunnan. The tablets would accompany the offering vessels and would sometimes comprise an enclosure for the offering vessels. (See trocadero item number 797164 for an example of the offering vessel)...
