Spherical boxes in bronze (or copper) cloisonné in relief. The wires isolate the relief lotus flower decoration, leaving free spaces of enamel between the motifs which is an unusual, more complex technique. The fact of not completely filling the partitions with enamel weakens those which are at the edge of the decor. Antique, early 19th century Chinese Qing Dynasty Canton enameled copper Famille rose box and cover. The top and two sides are finely hand-painted with colorful enamel against a white ground, depicting ladies and attendants at leisure on the garden terrace in rectangular panels. All surrounded by roses with leafy branches on a cobalt blue ground. The other two sides have the "Shou" emblem painted in brown enamel with gold borders.

The central copper section is engraved with three archaic style Taotie masks. This item was made in China during the reign of the Qianlong emperor (1736-1795). A stunning Chinese porcelain Dayazhai-type jar grisaille painted with yellow ground. The monochromatic imagery of black and grey peonies against a yellow enamel ground scrolls around the body under a band of ruyi heads below a band of key-fret. With descriptive tag on the base "From the Hall of Embodied Harmony". There is also a Museum Porcelain Exhibition tag. The tag has some losses but shows that the Exhibition was in the 1960's - item #238...

On each side is a 5 toed Imperial yellow dragon with the dragon on the lid chasing the flaming pearl of wisdom; all against a dark sky blue ground, the contrasting yellow stand really makes this piece stand out.
