A Han style (maybe of the period) white jade cicada in simple design and carved with clean lines showing superior craftsmanship. We date it Qing Dynasty or earlier, but it was probably from Han Dynasty. Condition: there are some calcification on the tip of the wings, which caused some tiny chips; some age veins on the lower part of the cicada (please see photo #4 and #5 for details). Length: 7 cm; width: 3.5 cm.
Unfortunately the images are not able to show the beauty of this small jade in the form of a mythical beast ( bixie ). There is a hole trough the piece so that it is possible to wear this piece as a necklace like a "Dzi Bead". Pale, yellowish "celaon jade", Song Dynasty.

A white jade statuette depicting a boy holds a lotus flower and lotus seedpods. The statuette has a auspicious meaning of “連生貴子 - continuous birth of noble sons” (quote from Terese Bartholomew's book "Hidden Meanings in Chinese Arts). Qing Dynasty. Hard stone cup, probably Jadeite. The more or less pale nuanced ocher colored stone is stained with a pretty green and veined with rust. The cut is very thin which required good control. Uneven grinding and a soft sheen suggest that this cut is ancient, difficult to date with certainty. Chinese work from the 19th century or before.

Good Qing Dynasty, Chinese nephrite jade carving of a lotus seed pod. In Chinese culture this symbolizes fertility and a desire to have many children on another level the lotus reflects purity, strength and rebirth- as it rises from the mud and blooms into something beautiful. The monk Budhai, also known as the Laughing Buddha, is an incarnation of the Bodhisattva Maitreya, the Buddha predicted to succeed Gautama Buddha in the future. The rotund deity carved with a broad smiling face seated with his left leg tucked under his ample protruding belly, the right leg drawn up, the shoulders and extremities draped in a wide flowing robe.
