Meiji (1868-1912) Period Japanese Gilt Bronze Model of a Pheasant on Wood Stand

It is 15 inches (38 cm) tall with stand, 10.75 inches (27 cm) without stand by 22 inches (56 cm) long by 8.25 inches (21 cm) wide. It is 11 lb.

This yatate, or traveler's pen case, is made of wrought brass, and has a long tube to hold the brush and a deep pot for the ink, which would have been saturated in a cotton wad. The lid snaps snugly over the pot to contain the ink, and a tab connected to the lid covers the end of the tube that contains the brush. A logo is inscribed on the tab in the form of a hiragana ya beneath a roof-shaped mark...

Meiji (1868-1912) Japanese Bronze Peacock & Peahen Standing on Rock Okimono

It is 17.85 inches (45.5 cm) tall by 12 inches (30.8 cm) wide. It is 18.9 Lb.

It is in good condition with no repair, except the peahen is missing her crest and her tail is bent at the end. The flower branch between the rocks is loose. There are also small chips at the flower petals. There are small chips and cracks at the base...

1900's Japanese Bronze Relief Dragon Vase with Crystal Ball

It is 12.6 inches (32 cm) tall by 10.4 inches (26.5 cm) wide. It weighs 7.2 lb.

It has oxidation, pitting, chips and cracks at the base and dragon's body, stains, a small section of the dragon's body slightly wobbles, felt stickers' residues at the bottom, and surface wears and scratches (as seen in the photos).

A set of three bronze macaques with fine incised detail in their faces and fur. Their postures are a highly naturalistic rendering. The underbelly of each monkey is signed by the famous bronze animalist artist, Genryusai Seiya. Perfect condition. Provenance: Austrian private collection.

A wildly crafted bronze image of a shishi lion breathing out a cloud forming the basin for a flower arrangement (known as an usubata). The curly hair has been somehow flaked off and maintained during the casting process, quite an exceptional example. The basin can be removed from the mouth of the creature. Assembled it is 32 x 28 x 33 cm tall (12-3/4 x 11-1/4 x 13 inches) and weighs 4390 grams (9.5 pounds). It is in fine original condition.

Edo Period, Ca. 1800s

This candlestick is fashioned from Copper with a ribbed shaft rising from a stylized chrysanthemum-form base terminating into a flower-form top with pricket to receive a candle. It has been attached to a later turned-wood base. It is for use in a Buddhist altar. Good condition.

Height with wood base: 24 in., Width: 5 ½ in.

A Japanese bulbous shaped bronze censer on four supports. There is a rectangular, three characters mark on the bottom - "Cast by Suiun". 19th Century. Condition: Nice patina; there are restorations on two locations, please see enlargement #2 and #6 for details. Diameter: Approximately 6-1/2"; height: 3".

Unusual 19th century Japanese mixed metal scroll weight in a form of a karako (Chinese boy) standing with one hand raised, wearing a rich robe and a collar. Could have been used as a brush rest as well. Dynamic posture, pleasantly heavy bronze with gilding on the collar and robe, intricate textile designs on the robe superbly inlaid with silver, excellent depiction of his chubby face with a slight smile. The underside of his robe on the bottom is lacquered black...

Incredible pair of very large bronze Japanese shokodai candlesticks. Made of bronze with fine casting for an important Buddhist temple. With chrysanthemum base and bowl. Prickets for large candles. A large bronze sculpture in the form of a censer decorated with auspicious motifs, cranes, and scrolling clouds. The lid has a small sculpture of Shoki, the demon queller standing on top of a rock with crashing waves. The side of the censer are two dragons staring at the central figure. The bottom of the censer is held up by four spirits known as shojo, known for drinking large amounts of sake and often seen in Kabuki and noh plays...
