A Fine Small Blue and White Porcelain Jarlet: Korea, Choson dynasty, 19th century, inscribed 8 characters This unusual cylindrical body wity characters sharply tapering to a raised and recessed ring foot and a sharply sloping shoulder with slightly raised colar, decorated with 8 characters in underglaze blue and an overall slightly green-tinged white glaze. It is in very fine condition but light hairline crack on the rim. Measurements: 8.5cm h. x 8cm d.

The potter creates the whimsical designs by running his finger (or thumb) through the still-wet glaze. 14.5w x 14.5h inches, 37w x 37h cm (the width includes the handles). Onggi are the most 'Korean' of Korean pots. All words related to onggi are of pure Korean origin, not based on Chinese characters. They are a beautiful form of Korean folk art.

A large Korean celadon glazed stoneware bowl with incised decoration of a pair of stylised birds, presumably Pheonixes or possibly Cranes. The bowl dates to the late 11th or the 12th century. The bowl measures 8 inches in diameter and stands 2.5 inches high at the rim. There is one extremely fine hairline crack to the rim that is scarcely visible to to the naked eye. There are no chips, frits cracks or restoration. Additional images on request.
