This pair of painted portraits depicts the newlywed Justice Minister Choi Seok-min (1858-1915) and his wife. The level of photo-like realism in these paintings is astounding. 19th Century portraits of women are exceedingly scarce. This is the only example we have ever seen offered for sale. The documentation pictured here is included with this pair of portraits. Each painting is 49 x 18 inches, 124.5 x 45.5 cm.

A Korean, celadon, brush washer of foliate form; Goryeo dynasty. Delicately potted as a flower, with petals rising from the wide base; a nice piece for the scholar's desk. Moulded decoration to the interior. Diameter; 9.2 cm Condition; finely crackled throughout, a small chip to one of the petals. See photo.

A Very Fine/Large/Heavy hard Wood Carved Korean Wedding Duck-19th C.: Korea, Joseon dynasty, 19th century. A good and large/heavy hard wood hand carved wedding duck, to set up with two parts, a head and body, traditionally used in wedding ceremonies, with old patina overall, its bottom square carved for holding. It’s in very good condition with old dark-brown patina due to its age,it measures 18.5cm high. and 32cm length, weight: 2.74 lbs.

The beautiful scenery on the surface resembles white clouds.

Such bowls were highly prized in Japan during Edo period by local daimyo and tea ceremony masters.

Antique Korean herbalist's medicine chest. Standing on low feet, this chest has 51 drawers and a small compartment at the very bottom opened by sliders. Each drawer is labeled in Korean and has a small metal ring for a drawer pull. The inside of the drawers are divided into two sections.

A Very Fine Big/Old Pine Tree by 소림 (小琳) 조석진 (趙錫晋) (1843년~1897)-19th C.: Korea, Joseon dynasty. A large single old pine stem and branched painted in ink and color, on silk, described, signed and two seals “小琳, 趙錫晋. This painting dedicated to Mr. Reid for his birthday gift, 1952. It is in very good condition but has some wears and a crease, it measures 37cm x 130cm painting only, or 48.5cm x 188cm overall.

Rare 5th Century Korean Gaya Water Jar of Classic Form, Color, and Design. The decoration is incised into the clay between the carved bands before firing. Gaya was a confederation of small states independent from and influential on the the Silla Kingdom and its pottery, until Silla annexed Gaya in the 6th Century. The long neck keeps water from sloshing out while the jar is being carried. Height: 10 inches, 25.5 cm.

A Korean, celadon bowl with incised decoration of two parrots to the interior of the bowl; Goryeo dynasty. The beautiful bluish green colour has turned an olive-green colour, in part, due to the incomplete oxidising atmosphere of the kiln. Dimension; 17cm diameter. Condition; a couple of long hairlines eminating from the rim, a chip to the rim, slightly warped, and firing imperfections.

This is a truly one-of-a-kind masterpiece of exquisite beauty that rewards long and repeated viewing. We have never seen a silver Joseon Dynasty lady's dagger (eunjangdo) with engraving entirely in a floral motif like this. The details are stunningly rendered along every millimeter of this fine work of art. Beyond the beauty of the luxurious surface, there is a deeper and thoughtful design that incorporates symbolism from ancient history...

Luxurious and heavy Korean Amamori (leaking rain) Incense Burner Kōro from Edo period.

The irregular shape and the base resemble Japanese Wabi Sabi tea bowls which tells that this piece was made specifically for Japanese market.

Amamori means the surface stained with spots that look like rain leaks on a wall creating beautiful complex scenery.

Geese and Reeds Painting (Noando) mounted on luxurious gold silk by Yang Ki Hun aka Seokyeon (1843-1897) from Pyeongyang, signed Seokyeon.
