Handsome & rare this hand wrought 980 sterling buckle was designed & signed c. 1930's by Taxco, Mexico artist William Spratling (1900-1967). Made in two sizes, this is the largest. This is an old Mexico City early repousse cuff. I love the romantic shape and the expert carving on this piece. The flowers are very deep and the dimension is outstanding. The front face is a large 2in. tall. The back is tapered to a not so small 1.25 inches. The repousse is open backed and also bares no hallmarks which is indicative of the earliest Mexico City pieces. The condition is superb with no cracks or dents.
This pair of hand forged sterling silver butterfly or moth earrings were designed & signed in the 1940's by American & Taxco, Mexico designer William Spratling (1900-67). Each screw back earring measures 1" X 1". Beautiful condition & patina. Both signed on the reverse. Along with this earring design, Spratling created a brooch in 4 different sizes. A pair of Victorian 14Kt yellow gold and garnet earrings centered by 7 X 5 millimeter oval faceted garnets. The classic Victorian black enamel decoration encircles the prong set garnets. The 18 X 13 millimeter oval earrings have wire backs.
