Obviously these two masks from the Nuo theater belong to the minorities of southern China. They constitute a set probably designed simultaneously by the same artist. One of the masks represents the monk Heshang and the second represents the jester Quintong. These masks date from at least the middle of the 20th century, that is to say about a hundred years. This adorable stuffed donkey has the softest mohair fur & a very goofy face. With articulating arms & legs, vinyl pads on the bottoms of his feet & a red vinyl mouth, he is quite an original. There are a few small areas where fur has been loved off along the seams and one ear is loose, but he is very clean & in overall good shape. I think he may have had another stripe of red yarn along his head, but he is still a cutie...

Featured in Spratling's 1942 Christmas catalogue this silver I.D. bracelet was hand crafted at the Spratling Taller in Taxco, Mexico. The design features a slide-in tongue closure. Weighing 57 grams it is 1/2" wide and will fit up to a 7 1/2" wrist. The bracelet was never monogramed. The condition and patina are excellent. Fully hallmarked on the reverse.

Beautiful face of a court lady with natural wood patina with some dark marks suggesting that perhaps this mask has been cleaned. The hair is enhanced with black color (as it was when purchased in 2003) and grouped at the top of the skull in a bun. The interior shows the patina of an oxidized and weathered hardwood. There is not one form of jewelry in which the Los Castillo did not excel yet I think their big, bold repousse brooches are simply above and beyond! The example I am presenting here, most probably an early creation if design numbers are indeed good indicators of when during the workshop's life a specific idea was transformed into jewelry, reflects the Egyptian Revival of the Deco period...

Rancho Alegre has made a real beauty in this piece. It is heavy at 111 grams. The concave center is pulled out with perfection to the precise flat edges. This is a charming lobed shaped tea-pot standing on four small individual feet. On one side it has a painting of a pair of sparrow in a blooming lotus pond. On the other side, it has a poem written on it. Circa. early Chinese Republic period 1940s-1950s.

No hairline crack, glaze fritting, damage, repair or restoration. The tea-pot is in good condition.

This Chinese pipe is from the Miao Ethnic Minority group in the vicinity of Rong Jiang. My Miao friends insist that this pipe would have been used for smoking tobacco and not opium. Made from silver alloy, the stem design has the two dragons chasing the center pearl.

The pipe is in very good condition and is 19" long and it comes with its own custom made stand.

Today I have a big 1.5in. tall necklace to offer with an incredible presence. Tulip Buds 468 was designed by Margot Van Voorhies while married to Antonio Castillo at their Taller Los Castillo. Very nice size, measuring 2 5/8 wide and 2 1/8" high, good weight. Stamped 980 on back, with Made in Mexico, no maker's mark. Likely Taxco work, and the 980 silver standard was used in earlier works, prior to 1950.
