Circa 1943-1948, the "Armadillo" design was originally created by Valentin Vidaurreta. There are several different versions, both in jewelry and belts. This bracelet has two opposing discs set in the center of a suede strap with a silver buckle closure. The strap is very fine leather, with suede on the outside and smooth leather on the inside. I had an artisan leather craftsman custom make the strap to replace the worn one which was on here.

Margot Van Voorhies was definitively the finest female designer from the Mexican Silver Renaissance. This repousse clamper is carved exquisitely and undulates with the reverse repousse. The fish is 4 inches tall and has a weight of 115 grams. Turn the fish around and the silver tapers to 1.25in. in the back for comfort. Due to the age of these clampers many suffer from metal fatigue and have lost their "snap". We have given this clamper a new spring so it is ready for another 50 years...

One of the Mexico City maestros active in the first decades of Mexico's 20th c. Silver Renaissance, Abraham Tobias was a contemporary of Matilde Poulat's and he created jewelry in the so-called Mexico City style repousse. Many of his pieces are based on Matl originals and admittedly the boldness and quality of his repoussage is very very close to, if not often en par with, Matilde's own...

Heavy Antonio Pineda Mexican silver bracelet wrought in his signature .970 alloy comprised of a series of with geometric links holding bezel set tiger's eye oval cabs on swivel pins. There is something very serious about Antonio jewelry - even his most minimalist of designs have a presence that commands respect and deference. Here the sturdiness of the silver "z" links is softened by the sense of fluidity in the molten browns and caramels of the stones. Perfect articulation with a masterfully hi...

Classy Mexican Deco silver and amethyst brooch signed by Fred Davis, there is something about the sculpturality of this piece that makes me think it might be a Valentin Vidaurreta design. It is not just the specific shape the amethyst flowers have been carved in that can be seen in signed Vidaurreta jewelry, it is mostly the bewitching rotundness of the silver bud that makes me think so. The epitome of Mexico City 1930s design in which it's not the multitude or complexity of elements that create...
