Circa 1943-1948, the "Armadillo" design was originally created by Valentin Vidaurreta. There are several different versions, both in jewelry and belts. This bracelet has two opposing discs set in the center of a suede strap with a silver buckle closure. The strap is very fine leather, with suede on the outside and smooth leather on the inside. I had an artisan leather craftsman custom make the strap to replace the worn one which was on here.

Measures 7 13/16" end to end...

Margot Van Voorhies was definitively the finest female designer from the Mexican Silver Renaissance. This repousse clamper is carved exquisitely and undulates with the reverse repousse. The fish is 4 inches tall and has a weight of 115 grams. Turn the fish around and the silver tapers to 1.25in. in the back for comfort. Due to the age of these clampers many suffer from metal fatigue and have lost their "snap". We have given this clamper a new spring so it is ready for another 50 years...

Vintage 1940s Hector Aguilar silver repousse floral brooch in what I believe to be a squash blossom design which might even have been created by Valentin Vidaurreta. There are several variations of the motif that can be found in various sizes and weights - during the short period in the 1940s when Coro had their jewelry made in Aguilar's workshop due to the war restrictions, brooches like this albeit lighter were also made for the American market and stamped with Coro's Mexican hallmark...

One of the Mexico City maestros active in the first decades of Mexico's 20th c. Silver Renaissance, Abraham Tobias was a contemporary of Matilde Poulat's and he created jewelry in the so-called Mexico City style repousse. Many of his pieces are based on Matl originals and admittedly the boldness and quality of his repoussage is very very close to, if not often en par with, Matilde's own...

Heavy Antonio Pineda Mexican silver bracelet wrought in his signature .970 alloy comprised of a series of with geometric links holding bezel set tiger's eye oval cabs on swivel pins. There is something very serious about Antonio jewelry - even his most minimalist of designs have a presence that commands respect and deference. Here the sturdiness of the silver "z" links is softened by the sense of fluidity in the molten browns and caramels of the stones...

Classy Mexican Deco silver and amethyst brooch signed by Fred Davis, there is something about the sculpturality of this piece that makes me think it might be a Valentin Vidaurreta design. It is not just the specific shape the amethyst flowers have been carved in that can be seen in signed Vidaurreta jewelry, it is mostly the bewitching rotundness of the silver bud that makes me think so. The epitome of Mexico City 1930s design in which it's not the multitude or complexity of elements that create...

Matilde Poulat was known for her reliquary silver work. She made beautiful crosses with ornate chain and statues adorned with stones. This cross and chain necklace has the block letters MATL on both the chain and the cross center piece. The chain measures 21 in. long with the drop being 2 1/8th inches tall. One of the rarest pieces of Margot de Taxco's enamel jewelry, the articulated mermaid brooch is not even pictured in Morrill's relevant book except as a drawing. Sharing the same design number as the "little fish" parures, she is the dedicated collector's dream-come-true. If one is very lucky and determined to find her, one might come upon an example in blues - discovering one in golden yellow, shimmering metallic sage green and sky blue is almost impossible. Yet here she is - her lithe body eme...

Big, beautifully crafted and early as is indicated by the low design number this Deco Los Castillo silver brooch is wrought en repoussage in what seems to have been a favored motif among Mexican silversmiths and designers at the time. Fern leaves inspired rings, clamper bracelets, brooches and necklaces and of course, earrings. The design comes in variations enough to ensure that everybody will find a piece that appeals to them. The specific version, however, I have never encountered before. The...

A rarely coming up bracelet by Taxco's foremost modernist maestro, this Antonio Pineda treasure is wrought in silver and adorned with obsidian bars and pearls. The design can be seen in Stromberg's catalogue for Pineda's exhibition at UCLA's Fowler Museum but in necklace form and it is a pleasure to wear! Caged in bullet-shaped links the obsidian bars peer through the cut-outs, their dark power contrasting with the delicate whiteness of the pearls. Ingeniously articulated, it feels like one's ow...

This is my favorite bracelet made by Erika Hult in the Mexican Silver Renaissance. Properly hallmarked as shown and is 6 7/8th inches long. Curves brilliantly around the wrist and has a weight of 100 grams of quality. The design has a big presence with 1.25in. of height. She studied at the Parsons School of Design in Paris as did Hubert Harmon. She signed her work with the name of RIC.

Antonio Pineda's wave is one of his most stunning designs. The links form a deep swirl to a button top that flows from link to link. The weight is a monstrous 218 grams of silver. The thickness at the highest point is 10mm. The length is approximately 17in. of wearable length. Properly hallmarked as shown. Finding a condition of no issues of any kind is also a delight. A must have for collectors and never goes out of style.

Today I am listing the Antonio Pineda chain and toggle bracelet. The length is 8.75in. and a depth of 7/8th in. The depth takes up some of the wearable length and it is a comfortable 7in. Properly hallmarked and very difficult to get all the marks in the pictures. The crown is visible and please request more photos if needed. I believe the stones at the ends of the toggle are Chrysoprase. The bracelet is solid and has a weight of 121 grams of heft.

Margot Van Voorhies worked with enamel of the most unusual beautiful color and design. Her work is compiled in the book THE ART OF MEXICAN ENAMELWORK by Pennny C. Morrill. This one is named Noble 5404. It is so incredible with a primary green with glowing mixed colors sparking in all directions. These enamels being of vintage age pre 1970 are mostly found with loss. This is an incredible William Spratling necklace from the Mexican Silver Renaissance. Finding one of these is really a treasure due to how rare they really are but this one is even more rare due to 18kt balls in it's center and again on a thick layer of the medallion below the balls. These have been tested to 18kt. The repousse is open back and is an attribute of it's early age and the hallmarks for high silver content. The name is for MOTH and it is stunning on with 3 draped ball chains. It has...

One of the legendary designs in the index of vintage Mexican silver jewelry, the "armadillo" can be found with both Hector Aguilar's signature and that of Manuel Altamirano's. It has been emulated by other maestros as well, less-celebrated and anonymous, yet the most important names associated with it are definitely the first two even though it was Valentin Vidauretta who created it. The "armadillo" necklace can be found in all-silver with graduated links going all around the neck; in a combinat...
