Fine Chinese Ming Dynasty Blue & White Kraak Porcelain Dish - Bird

This porcelain dish was made during the latter part of the Wanli reign (1573 - 1620). The underglaze blue features a bird in a landscape in the centre panel, surrounded by alternating precious objects and peach sprays. The underside is more simply decorated with dots separated into eight panels. The rim is slightly flared and the rim edge is foliated...

Description:

A Jizhou bowl was beautifully applied with whitish tortoiseshell glaze.
Sited on the characteristic shallow walled nearing flat foot ring, the bowl was slightly inverted on the mouth rim.
The body clay revealed at the bottom was in loosening-feel quality and was fired in light buff tint.
Molding scar was left at the foot ring too.
Due to long time of age, enduring old crackles were yielded in the glaze.
The agate-like glaze was in very fine condition...

Miao womans Zhaotong style robe from Guizhou province, Wumeng mountain region. The traditional arrow pattern of this garment was considered as a protection from the arrows of enemies. Combining cotton and wool homespun, these garments were used literally as blankets to protect from the cold while tending cattle. Not many survived and the condition reflects the use. Robe is close to 5 feet in width.

The compressed spherical form with vitreous green glaze and blue pooling from the rim on high, waisted neck trending to a blue iridescence dripping where meets a thin, clear matte glazed buff body around the girth.
