An attractively carved okinomo, depicting three sparrows on a branch, made in Japan during the Meiji period (1868-1911) for export to Europe or the U.S. Condition very good. There is one crack which runs through the centre of the branch and finishes as a hairline on the first birds head. The ivory displays the usual age yellowing - most visible on the back view...

Japanese Meiji Cast Iron Tetsubin with Signature - Hailstone Pattern

The cast iron tetsubin (teapot / kettle) is of course the central feature of the tea ceremony. This example was made during the Meiji period (1868 - 1912) or possibly a little later, the pattern to the upper part of the kettle known as the hailstone or nail head pattern. It has a copper cover that is a perfect fit. There is a signature to the right of the spout and there also appear to be seal marks to the base...

A set of Mandarin squares, comprising a front and a back, dating around 1900. Insignia for a court official's wife, with appliqued silver pheasant bird, denoting the fifth rank. Gold and silver metallic threads couched on violetta silk, lined with blue silk. Condition: traces of age, little faded, back badge with short tear (please see photo # 10), lining little stained. Dimension: 25.5 cm x 28.2 cm.

A larger than average Millefleur("thousand flower") decorated bowl. The base carries a four character iron red reign mark of the Qianlong emperor but this item was made later, for export, probably during the reign of the Guangxu emperor (1875-1908). Condition - very good - no damages and no restoration...

Supported by four horse-hoof feet, the stand was designed in elegant form by beautiful curves.
It was tenoned perfectly by excellent craftsmanship.
Being preserved with brownish patina, the stand can be in well use for your wonderful collections.

This antique Chinese necklace has an ornately detailed large Kylin as the central medallion. The medallion is 3.5 inches across and there are are five decorative chains hanging from it. Each of these chains ends with a fruit. The low grade silver used for the necklace is typical of the Chinese silver used in old China. The Kylin is a Chinese mythical animal.

This lock necklace can comfortably be worn by a adult even though it was originally intended for a child...

Description: A beautiful ivory sachet was carved in open work. With archaic patterns as the ground decoration, swirling dragons were carved vividly on both sides. The sachet can be used as a pendant when the cap was removable and a perfume dipped cotton can be easily put into it. Date: Early 20th Century.

Russo-Japanese War triptych illustrating the surprise attack on Russia’s Far Eastern Fleet at Port Arthur that initiated the war. A large torpedo-boat is at the center. Two Russian ships at the upper left have been hit and are sinking. Three Japanese battleships are at the upper right...

This is an attractive early satsuma Koro or incense burner with very fine workmanship. I believe it may be pre-1900 because it appears to have been made with thicker mercury fired gold. Lid and bottom piece are both marked with a museum inventory number. The lid has been repaired and it looks quite good. The images show where it was broken. It stands about 4 1/2 inches tall and 4 1/2 inches wide. It is signed but I do not recognize the signature.

A pair of Japanese polychrome Imari porcelain bowls with subtly shaped rims. Alternating dragon and floral reserves on a patterned red ground centering three friends of Winter (pine, bamboo, prunus) medallion. The verso with karakusa around a raised foot ring surrounding a broad, unglazed band around a small, glazed center. Good condition. Each about 5 3/4 inches diameter (14.6cm) and about 2 inches high (5.1cm)...

Description: A beautiful Imperial blue-ground porcelain bowl in large size was painted to the exterior with five-clawed dragon motif. In iron-red, the imperial motif of dragons were paired with Phoenix and decorated with patterns of tendrils flowers and weeds. A real imperial porcelain was in quite large size and very unique colour. Date: Qing Dynasty, Guang-xu mark and period (AD1875-1908) Width: 25.5cm Condition: very good except some kiln defects within the foot rim.

Description: A strand of rosaries was assembled by 108 pieces of old Zhi-Tan beads. Among them, old coral and elephant bone beads were decorated. Old beads were getting hard to find. All these beads were believed from Tibet, now were ingeniously strung as a decoration item. Date: Late 19th Century.

A Carved and Gilded Buddhist Reliquary containing a polished pink stone exhibited at the Shimane Prefectural Musuem Arakawa Kisai exhibition in 1974 enclosed in a custom-made wooden box and retaining the loan papers from the museum as well as the original pamphlet. The wood body has been carved in tempestuous waves, lacquered black and gilded, with a polished pink orb inside a flame shaped finial. It is 7 inches (18 cm) tall and in excellent condition...

A rear and large lacquered manuscript chest. These chests were essential to every monastery as the stored Buddhist scriptural texts. Size: L. 61cm. W. 17.6cm. H. 15cm. Condition: Normal wear. One leg has been replaced. See photo.

Description:

Nuan-Shou, Hand Exercisers were used for palm massage by practicing in one hand. Rolling it to make Qi running through the nerve endings.
The pairs were made from tiger bones.
Enduring old patina was yielded when bone tissues were obviously observed.

It is really fun when practicing them in your hand and hearing the tingling sound.
